We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Criscuolo Erb and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I think every artist goes through this! I believe when you truly love to create, you just have to keep at it even when it feels like all the odds are against you. When you are authentic and true to yourself, you will find your way. Start out with small, realistic goals and build from there.
What should our readers know about your business?
I started Black Wolff Leather to bring my ideas to life and share them with those who love one of a kind, leather bags and accessories. Everything I make is made by hand, from cutting, painting, sewing- even the fringe! I started out by doing small shows and markets and moved on to selling to some local shops and online. It can be very challenging to keep up with sales and creating new products, because my shop is made to order and I am a just a one woman show. My biggest struggle was starting over when I lost my instagram account a couple years ago, but little by little I just keep at it because I am passionate about my work. I love seeing people wear my brand, it keeps me going. I give back whenever I can, supporting the rodeo community.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would give my guest an east county San Diego tour first! I’d start by bringing them to my home, so they can meet our horses and mini donkey. Then I would take them to a rodeo or a team roping jackpot where they can see my daughter and her horse compete! In the evening, we’d go to Grand Ole BBQ for some food and live music, the Renegade Country Bar to dance, or the casino. If I planned a day in the city, it would probably be in Old Town for the best Mexican food and more music.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to rodeos, cowboys, horses and the steers. The hard work, dedication, love for animals and the western way of life inspires me everyday.
