Meet Ellie Goodwin | Yoga Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ellie Goodwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ellie, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote is “Even after all this time, the sun never says to the earth, ‘You owe me.’ Look what happens with a love like that. It lights the whole sky” By Hafez. I think it is a great metaphor for how to live by spreading your light, positivity, and happiness without expecting anything in return.

What should our readers know about your business?
Getting your 200 hour RYT training is a challenge in itself as it’s a serious time and financial commitment, and that’s just the beginning. Teaching somewhere is a whole other challenge in itself. I was fortunate enough to be able to complete my training during a phase of life where I hadn’t started working full time yet. But this shouldn’t be something that holds you back from going after your 200 hour RYT training. Look at this as an investment in yourself, your knowledge, your mind, body, spirit, etc. Put yourself up to the challenge and learn something new. These things are always worth it. Once you’ve completed your training and are ready to get out there and start teaching, try a bunch of studios in your area first. Find the one that you feel you’re most aligned to. Again, I am lucky enough to teach my own classes in an outdoor setting. But oftentimes when you teach at a studio there is a particular style/vibe that students expect. Find the place where you love practicing the most and then try to start teaching there. It’s important to feel a connection to the studio.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people and places I could shout out in my yoga teacher training experience. I’ll keep it short and sweet and shout out Yoga District, a yoga studio in Washington DC where I did my 200 hour RYT training, Mission Bay Beach club where I currently teach outdoor yoga in San Diego, and my mom for encouraging me to do my training between graduating from college and starting my full time career.
