We had the good fortune of connecting with Eddie Roa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eddie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was managing someone else’s business and I didn’t agree with the choices they were making on how to reinvest the profits in order to grow.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is straight family owned. We don’t have multiple investors or rely on a corporate structure. We usually go against the norm; we don’t follow trends or copy and paste what everyone else is doing in our industry. I am proud of the growth and the direction that the business has gone over the last 13 years. We got to 13 years by following my gut feelings. Nothing has been easy, there have been lots of ups and downs, especially during COVID, but that has never stopped me from believing in the business and knowing that I’m doing the right thing. The number 1 lesson I’ve learned throughout the years is that nobody will believe in your dream as much as you do, so stop expecting others to understand you. I’m trying to build a legacy, something that my clients’ grandchildren can say that my grandfather, father, and now I boxed here, and my kids will box here.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to the beach; San Diego is the #`1 best beach city in the world.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to recognize my father. He started his own business at the age of 18. At the age of 18, I was able to see and learn from his success and mistakes. Watching him struggle and succeed really set a foundation for me to believe that I could do it as well.
