We had the good fortune of connecting with Eddie deAngelini and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eddie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Since a young age, I’ve always found my happiness in being creative. When you’re young, there’s no thought about making a living from it, just the pure desire of expressing yourself in your creations. As an adult, I lost that pureness and chose a career path of financial stability. When I started writing and drawing my comic strip Collectors ten years ago, I realized personal happiness will always be more important that being safe. I chose to believe that it’s best to do what you love and success will follow. Do date, I’ve published six, soon to be seven, print volumes of my comic strip and have built a fan base around the world. I don’t regret a single day of my creative career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Collectors is a webcomic and print comic strip about Eddie, a comic book collector who loves his wife and his comic collection…but not always in that order! Started in 2012 and loosely based on my own marriage and comic book collecting obsession, Collectors is a love letter to the pop culture phenomenon of comic books and to all the wives who trip over longboxes all over the house!

I’m most proud of the community of fans my work has built, especially those who tell me “that’s totally me and my wife!” Being an independent comic creator is a tough career. It’s a battle every day to get your work in front of the eyes of new readers and the industry is changing constantly. Those who don’t change with it can be left behind. Despite the hard work, I’ve enjoyed every success and failure that got me this far in my creative journey.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All of my thanks goes to my wife Kristen, beside being one of the characters in my comic strip, she has been a constant source of encouragement and support throughout my career. Plus, she’s always been my biggest fan!
