We had the good fortune of connecting with Dylan Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dylan, what are you inspired by?
Generally, I’m inspired by everyday people. Those people who don’t seek credit for what they do even though they deserve all the credit this world has to offer. That and just the idea of wanting to show the world a different point of view on what goes on in this life and how it’s not so bad I’d say are the two things that inspire me most when creating music with Superloser.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the leader of an indie rock group called Superloser, which has really been a thing since 2019, but we started as The Looselips. We changed the name mostly because of the comments we got with The Looselips name seeming a little risque, but at least both names turn some heads! The main goal behind our music is to metaphorically take off our Ray-Ban sunglasses, hand them to the listener, and tell them to “put them on and see the world isn’t all that bad through our lens.” Our music has been described by fans and critics as “a cross between the vintage California sound of The Beach Boys and The Byrds as well as the modern California sound of The Growlers and The Frights” and I would say that its a fairly accurate description, since the members of the group were all born and raised in Southern California. The most exciting part for me is that we easily have the potential to take that California sound to a new place. To be able to push forward the standard that was raised by groups like The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Strokes, and Arctic Monkeys is one thing that drives us, and I feel its one thing that we do very well, and it’s exciting to be able to be at the helm of that. It definitely wasn’t easy to get there, between lineup changes and an unexpected global pandemic, I can easily say that with those challenges we’ve been able to power through and look forward to the future with our heads up high.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, some of the best spots I’d take them to in my hometown (Chino, California) are for food. I always tell people that Chino is known for two things: cows and a prison that holds some of the Manson clan, both of which are not the best of sights to be entertained by. There are two particular spots where you can get the best breakfast in the area. Super Chili Burgers, which has some of the best breakfast burritos, and Flo’s Cafe, where you can get the best southern style biscuits and gravy. Then for lunch and dinner, New York Pizzeria is one of the staples of pizzerias in the city, and if you wanted something a bit on the fancier side, there’s a steakhouse called Tony Spunky Steer, two restaurants that are among the best of their kind, and beloved by everyone in my hometown. For entertainment, one of the perks of where I live in California is that I’m about 30 minutes away from Disneyland, and 45 minutes away from Newport Beach. Two places that I tend to be a frequent visitor of, and where I can also find solace and inspiration. I’m also roughly 45 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, and 30 minutes away from the mountain ranges of Mt. Baldy, so it would be easy to just hop in a car and go wherever we want to go for entertainment. I’m also an avid collector of vinyl records, and of guitars and basses, so checking out smaller mom and pop stores is always entertaining and exciting because you never know what you’ll find or who you’ll cross paths with.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First of all, I’d like to shout out to my grandma and great-grandmother who raised me. Without those two, I would either be dead, in a children’s home or both! I’d also like to shout out my bandmates (both current and former) who help make Superloser possible. Superloser wouldn’t be a thing without them! Lastly, I’d like to thank Brian Wilson. of The Beach Boys and the album Pet Sounds for helping me through some of the darkest periods of my life, and inspiring me to push things forward with Superloser sonically.
