Meet Duy Tran | Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Duy Tran and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Duy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The biggest influence was that I control my own work schedule and the freedom for a healthy work-life balance. But most importantly, I recognized that I was not able to grow to my max potential while working at the previous firms. It was either the firm was too big where you were struck doing the same repetition of technical drawings or at a small firm, the type of projects we would receive was not attractive within a big firm.

What should our readers know about your business?
We choose not to advertise because our design speaks for itself. We tend to design with the client rather than for the client. Our work ethic is very personal and we would rather meet in your own comfort of your home rather than in our office. Each of our designs is specifically catered
We were able to where we are today because we provide great design at a great cost. We know most people do not have unlimited cash flow, so it is important to come up with a design the client will love but also not devastate their bank account.
The biggest lesson I have learned is that the client is hiring and trusting you to do a job. In doing so, you are working for the client and have to be considerate of what the client really wants in the project. You as a professional have to guide them in a way that will fulfill the design requirements and most importantly within budget and time.
We all saw that NFTs and crypto have exploded within the last several years. What am excited about most in the upcoming year is that I am planning to create an NFT where a client anywhere in the world can purchase an NFT and in return, you will get credit for our design services.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are so lucky that we living in southern California where its constant mixing pots of great people, food, and attractions.
The list would be the following:
1) Food first- Sushi Ota, CrossStreet Chicken (Chicken Sandwiches), Mariscos El Titanic (Mexican Seafood), Civico 1845 (Italian), any Vietnamese restaurant (since there are so many types of Vietnamese food you can get.), Extraordinary Desserts. (Honestly, there are tons of other great restaurants out here in San Diego to be listed)
2) Attractions- Mission beach (Belmont Park), Zoo (Obviously), probably spent a day visiting most of the museums at Balboa Park. Since San Diego is relatively close to LA, we would probably do one day out there.
3) I personally like the North Park area for the bar scene since it’s an older crowd.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents, my wife, my son, and my closest friends have influenced me personally. Professional, all of the previous firms (Jonathan Segal Architects, Stephen Dalton Architects, and Coston Architects), that I have worked for and the continual trust that some of my contractors (American Finest Remodeling) have referred to me.
