Meet Donna Oun | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Donna Oun and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Donna, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite quote of all time is by Henry Ford. He says, “whether you think you can or can’t– you’re right”. I’m a firm believer that you can do anything you set your mind to. This quote has served as a gentle reminder throughout my life that I am my own limitation. No matter what anyone has to say about your outlandish ideas or desires, all that matters at the end of the day is that you believe in yourself. Trust your journey.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve dabbled in so many creative projects that I’ve lost count. I genuinely believe that because of that, I’ve been able to be where I am today. Growing up, the idea of being complacent actually terrified me. I didn’t want to be good at just one thing and do that until I died. I wanted to explore, learn, and experiment as much as I possibly could.
On TikTok (@donutoun), I’m known as an LGBTQIA+ influencer who rocks suits and inspires others to do the same. But outside of that, I’m an artist who loves digital art and designing hats/pins. Creating Sacred Gen (@sacred.gen) hasn’t been easy. It’s definitely a lot of trial and error, but it’s worth it. I’d say building my brand awareness has been the most difficult part of growing Sacred Gen. With so many other hat shops available, it would’ve been easy for my shop to get lost in the sea of it. But I truly believe my designs are one-of-a-kind and the mission for Sacred Gen is unique. Every month, Sacred Gen donates 10% of all proceeds to a different charity/cause. Our customers not only help us help others, but they also get to look fresh while doing it!
I hope the more Sacred Gen grows, the more positive impact we’ll be able to make in the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Los Angeles has SO much to explore. You have this melting pot of different crowds, vibes, foods, you name it. It’s beautiful, really. If you only have a week to explore LA, I’d set up the itinerary a little like this:
Day 1 – Visit Venice Beach. Not only can you sun your buns, but you also get to walk around and see all the cool little shops/vendors there! Venice has a really fun vibe and is a great place to both relax and explore.
Day 2 – Visit museums such as: The Broad, The Getty, California Science Center, Dream Space, and the list goes on! You’ll have a really fun time exploring these awesome museums.
Day 3 – Hit the books at The Last Bookstore. This store makes a great date space for lovers and friends! Afterward, you can grab coffee at Urth Cafe. Delicious food and drinks. My favorite drink would have to be the Hojicha Latte!
Day 4 – Explore Eagle Rock. York Street has a lot of really awesome small businesses ranging from food to clothes, to crystal shops, you name it!
Day 5 – Go to a Dodgers game if you’re able to. There’s nothing like being surrounded by Dodger fans and watching a good game of baseball. The atmosphere is indescribable and the energy is unmatched.
Day 6 & 7 – Relax! Take a drive around LA and stop anywhere that piques your interest. The possibilities are endless.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my family for always sticking by me no matter what business venture I embarked on. Thank you guys for your patience and for never giving up on me.
I would also like to thank my wife, Victoria, for always challenging me to be my best self. Thank you for always being so loving, patient, and supportive. You inspire me daily to keep reaching new heights.
