We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Franco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dominique, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When I think about risks I think about the outcome of what may come from it. Taking risks is not always gonna end up with a bad outcome. If you don’t take the risk you’re going to be living a comfortable life and never branching out to meet new people, or seeing and traveling to different places. In my career it is all about risks. If I don’t branch out of the spot I’m comfortable in then I will never be able to move up. Taking a risk to audition for a role is scary, but there’s so many things that can happen from just taking that one step. Always remember risks are not always bad in the end.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being 22 years old and looking back from when I started dancing when I was 3 is a lot to take in. I never thought I’d be going into a career with it and falling in love with the art. I never noticed how important dance was to me until I injured myself and had to have surgery. I was missing apart of myself that I didn’t know I missing until it was gone. Currently I am continuing my dance major at CSU Dominguez Hills, joined the dance company, Mosaic, and I am on the Dance Team! It’s a lot, but it is also something I love and have the passion to do. It wasn’t easy at all to get where I am because growing up in a small town I didn’t have the sources or places to go and take dance classes. I attended a dance studio in another town and had to travel back and fourth. I was self taught for certain styles until they were offered at my studio, and I never had a dance team in high school. It was hard to travel back and fourth from school, sports, dance classes, and then back home to do it all over the next day. I wouldn’t change it all because it has brought me to juggle life and schedule accordingly and that is important if you wanna be able to go into the industry. I hope people read my story and think about all the possibilities that can come if you just take that risk. If you want something go and work for it, reach for that goal, and if it doesn’t work out in the end, at least you can say you tried and took a risk.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend and I used to live 3 hours away but now we get to live 30 minutes away from each other! My favorite spots to eat are definitely boiling crab AND Korean BBQ. I couldn’t choose just one because recently I was exposed to this Korean BBQ spot and I can’t get enough of it. I would take my best friend there since she introduced me to boiling crab and it’s only fair to introduce her to a place I love here in the city. I also love taking hikes, so I’d show her this beautiful spot that overlooks the ocean/beach. Get some food, have a picnic, and look at the ocean together while we talk about life together.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my hard working father, my intelligent mother, my caring brother, the amazing front row honeys, my close loved ones, and all the people who have entered and left my life as a lesson. Without going through all the lows in my life I would not be where I am today. I would lastly like to thank my younger self, for dreaming so big and reaching for the stars.
