We had the good fortune of connecting with Dimitrios Komninos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dimitrios, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Working hard and not being afraid to take risks. Our product selection has expanded through the years because we weren’t afraid to try new recipes with our Greek Salad dressing, infusions, tapenades and olives.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Dimitri Olive Oil we take pride in the authenticity of our products, the purest first cold pressed extra virgin olive oil on the market. Our 200 year old farms, off the coast of the Mediterranean coast produce only the finest oil manufactured and pressed by us. We import our products so customers know they are buying directly from the source. We have been in business for over 15 years but have grown significantly in the past 5-6 years due to the increase of farmer’s markets in the area and online sales. We have also grown our product selection and are always trying to come up with new concepts that customers would like. We try different infusions with our EVOO, tapenades, salad dressing and olives. We handmake our infusions, olive mixes and tapenades weekly in our commercial kitchen.

When a shipment leaves Greece it takes about 30 days until it arrives in the US.

It hasn’t been easy, we had a small storefront and our warehouse at a different location; as we expanded we are now able to have a storefront, commercial kitchen and warehouse all in one location.

There are some misconceptions about EVOO; it’s important to know where the olive oil is coming from and that it is first cold pressed unfiltered. When you filter olive oil you are extracting a lot of the nutrients from the oil, so it’s important to use EVOO for all the health benefits.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Orioles Game, Ouzo Bay, Harbor East, also check out Little Italy, have crabs at Jimmy’s Famous Seafood
