We had the good fortune of connecting with Dillon Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dillon, what do you attribute your success to?
I feel community is the reason we are here and continue to thrive. As we try to grow and change we always need to check back in, whether it’s with our network of current distributors, our staff or our patrons, we are always trying to take care of them so they take care of us.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are one of the last truly untreated private hot springs in the nation, giving us the responsibility to inform the public of the differences between treated and untreated waters. Through our stewardship and with the help of our community of other hot springs owners, we have been able to assist in maintaining our water quality and keeping it fully natural for years to come.

The business started small stemming from the previous owners who’s had a dream to make a utopia of sustainable food practices and hot springs wellness. We have taken that and expanded to support to local nonprofits, expansion of our gardens biodiversity and growing season with geothermal greenhouses.

Even though Montana is relatively lax on governance and environmental law it has been a lot of red tap to continue expansion with a resource like water at stake. There has been a lot of struggles with making sure we follow all guidelines even though they can be spoken guidelines at times.

We just want to be known as great stewards of an amazing slice of this world. Trying to do best by our land, communities we cross with and people that find us by happenstance.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well if they are staying with me of course they will be getting plenty of soak times at the hot springs.

Monday- wake up and soak, have coffee pool side and then head to Bozeman for breakfast at FEED Café. A great spot for locally sourced food and a bustling environment, where you might run into 10 people you know before you grab a seat. Then head up to Hyalite Resivoir and depending on if it’s summer or winter either go paddle boarding, hiking or ice climbing. Finish up the day at BLACKBIRD with amazing wood oven pizza and Natty wine pours. Then grab a room at The ARMORY hotel and enjoy a night cap at TUNEUP bar with a live band.

Tuesday- wake up slow and then head up to the roof top pool for mimosas and a dip. Then walk main street for some local fare. Decide on coffee and scones from TREELINE, then head for a hike in the Bridgers up to fairy lake or stop at the ski hill. After some energy is burnt off head to LAST BEST COMEDY for open mic night and then have a time out with the drinking crowd.

Wednesday- head out of town to BUTTE america and check out the Mining Museum followed by a couple drinks at HEADFRAME distillery. Take a walk in uptown to experience the architecture of the once wealthiest town in America, with many astonishing houses and buildings designed by many famous architects of the 1900’s. End the day at a supper club and get stuffed to the gills.

Thursday- seems like a good day to head to Anaconda and again either ski Discovery or if it’s summer head to George Town lake. Either way have to stop at 7 GABLES for breakfast and dinner for the dive bar experience but incredible food.

Friday- make our way back for one more soak, and some salads from our garden. Then head back into Bozeman, grab some popup BBQ food from THE YELLOW HOUSE. Take the dogs to the dog park and then head to the airport for a drink before the flight.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My partner (Haley) deserves a lot of the credit, she has been a driving force for us to become a larger net for the people we care about and the community we are forming. She makes sure that every detail is addressed and that we are not only taking care of our needs but the community. Without her my decisions would have led us down a different path, not a better or worse place, but it wouldn’t be the amazing place we have created.
