We had the good fortune of connecting with Diego Negrete and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Diego, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
People say I’m organized with my work deliveries, creative process, and all work-related task I think that was for a long time what I saw as a balance because it gave me structure on my work. But at some point, this wrong called balance overpassed my personal life to the point I was working extra hours at night, weekends, leaving my personal life always aside for later. So, when after countless conversations with my wife and the born of my now almost 2 years son was that I start to think and act differently about the time invested in work and personal life aiming to reach a balance point that allowed me to be more present for myself, family and work.

It has been a continuous learning process that I think has not an ending result or perfect formula It is more like being always open to new scenarios, situations and adapting yourself to them without loose your golden balance.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Formally I’m a Graphic Designer, in love with typography, logotypes, dogs, food and now I’m a new father. I got where I am right now thanks to the support and trust of many people that had taken the risk to believe in my skills helping me to grow as a designer and creative. From whom I’ve learned to pay attention to details, be straightforward with my work, say NO, and help clients and brands to thrive through design. And finally, I’ve learned to trust in my instincts through my skills and experience.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Tijuana has a lot to offer and new places where to eat, drink and have fun it’s a very exciting city full of creativity growing fast that I myself can’t keep track of all that is out there. But I have some places I love like Tacos “El Frances” in Playas the Tijuana the hood where I live. Other places have to be the taprooms from Cervecería Insurgente downtown where it’s also La Corriente Cevichería Nice a Mariscos Restaurant with the best Red Snapper Tostada, and finally, Tras / Horizonte Restaurante to eat some unique Tacos de Mariscos and have nice drinks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
From all the support I’ve gotten from friends, colleagues, and family. I have a lot to thank my wife Eliane Mancera, she has been always supporting my dreams, working alongside me for them, and besides, she is a fantastic creative mind.
