We had the good fortune of connecting with Desiree Alvare and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Desiree, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Authenticity takes the cake for being the most important factor that drives our brand. Being authentic to who we are as individuals bleeds into our identity as business owners and contributes to the energy we put out.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Assisted stretch studios are finally reaching the masses across states and it truly makes me happy to see; every single person could benefit from stretching. Investing in your health and becoming more in tune with your body is form of self care, stretching truly feels like a form of prehabilitation.

Just like any small business we run on the support of our community. Our profession requires people to be vulnerable with their bodies, walking us through previous injuries & daily routines. We emphasize the connection of mind, body, soul – because everything is connected and when all of those areas of life are feeling aligned it allows us to understand what our bodies are trying to communicate with us. The authenticity of our team is what sets us apart from other stretch studios, we take the time to care about each person that walks through our doors and do everything in our power to ensure we are all on the same page of end goal. End goal looks different for everyone – we have professional athletes looking to upgrade the way they recover, the typical weekend warrior who sits behind a desk and is seeking back pain relief, yoga instructors who are seeking more depth in their practice, the range is endless.

Owning a business is the most challenging thing I have ever embarked on, but also the most rewarding. The highs are high, and the lows are low. You have to be willing to put your ego aside, communication skills need to stay at 10 leaving no room for interpretation, and always be willing to pivot.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite activities is creating itineraries for friends! So POV bff is in town: Sorry not sorry, we are starting the day with a workout at Elevate Lagree pilates, then making our way to Altha Align headquarters in Bankers Hill for recovery. Pit stopping for breakfast at the Little Italy farmers market. After we’re feeling like a brand new person post stretch, we will head to Pacific Beach for an ocean dip and fish tacos at Oscars. And to end the night we head to North Park for a few round of drinks: Mables Gone Fishing, to Part Time Lover to Seven Grand. I promise you that is a perfect day spent in San Diego.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My right hand lady deserves so much praise, I got lucky enough to meet Izzy a little over a year ago. I became a stretch therapist 4 years ago and started with a corporate company who held a large team, I still hold them all to such high regards because that was truly the smartest group of people I had ever worked with. When I was finally in a place where I felt like it was time to branch off and do things my way I was grateful to have Izzy in my corner and was stoked when she said she wanted to go all in with me. Altha Align has been a concept in my head for years but Izzy really helped bring it to life by branding it. Having a business partner and best friend in one person is special. Altha Align survives on the dedication of our clients. When I left the PT world I was afraid I wasn’t going to be able to make real changes in peoples lives & I am reminded by clients constantly how coming to see us has changed their quality of life. The encouragement of our friends & family never goes unnoticed.
