Meet Denise Johnson | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Denise Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Denise, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have always been drawn to the arts, particularly photography. However, I also love creative writing, and singing. I feel like it’s been intertwined with me as early as I can remember. Music is also a vital part of my life, and I have been singing since I could remember. About two years ago I decided to incorporate music into my photography world and the opportunities that have opened for me are beyond my wildest dreams. So many doors that swung wide open for me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is Photography, been passionate about it since I was 8/9 years old. Been consistently running my business since 2014. I have done everything from wedding photography to family, holidays, children, sports, boudoir, and beyond. It definitely has helped me step out of my comfort zone, and shyness. Especially once I added live music into my world. It has definitely helped me overcome my shyness and social anxiety being around people, and having to communicate, network, and plan out sessions in addition to running my own portrait sessions, which gives me the opportunity to completely be in charge, and I love being able to run it how I want. When I do portrait sessions with musicians, I love running ideas with each of them, and if they have a certain vision I want to help them bring it to life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely all over Hollywood, Santa Monica, Grifith observatory. There are so many amazing places to see, explore, and so many amazing restaurants to try. One of my favorites is Micelli’s by Universal Studios. I love Italian food, so that’s definitely a favorite to go to.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I want to recognize my father who cultivated my passion for photography in me at a young age, even though I gave it up for many years after he passed away. As of today, every opportunity I have I always say thank you to him. He was truly the biggest inspiration for me, and I miss him every day. Secondly, I would love to give a huge shoutout to all the musicians who have given me the opportunity to capture photos for them, I have only been doing live music photography for a little under two years. I have seriously loved that the majority of them have given me a chance to work with them. And once they see their photos, I love how excited they get.
