We had the good fortune of connecting with DENISE HOOPER and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DENISE, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The film and TV industry isn’t always glamorous and we work ridiculously long hours. It’s been a topic of conversation for awhile now but only a few productions have tried to implement shorter days. I am constantly in awe of my friends who have raised kids while working in this business, I don’t even have a cat !!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

By day~I’ve been a makeup artist for 20+ years

It’s not surprising that my favorite part about my job is discovering new products as I’ve been a beauty junkie since I was a kid. I loved watching my mom apply her Maybelline eyeshadow (at her light up makeup mirror) and I was obsessed with her perfume collection.  I really enjoy connecting with brand founders, trying new beauty products, sharing my reviews and supporting the indie brands. I am adding another side hustle to the line-up with a Beauty Blog…coming soon.

As a shop owner and creative~ Currently my shop is online. I carry small brands and makers and a few designers from Mexico. I recently added a selection of Found Goods for some new inspiration in the shop.  I grew up going to flea markets and antique shops with my mom so I feel like hunting for treasures is in my DNA.

As a Daydreamer~ The future plan is to have a Brick & Mortar again someday, in a small town near the coast. The current plan is to continue the straddle of entrepreneurial life and makeup artist life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

My favorite tacos~Mercado in Santa Monica

Meditation~The Mindry in Malibu + a walk on the beach then sunset cocktails at Malibu Farm

Acai Bowls~ Lazy Bird in West Hollywood or Anaheim

Breadblok~Best Vegan/GF pastries and bread

Surya Spa~ The ultimate splurge for wellness and health at Santa Monica at the Proper Hotel

The Proper Hotel ~is an amazing staycation or digital nomad hangout.

Happy Hour~ Gracias Madre + the best Mexican inspired vegan

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
MY PARENTS~ I grew up being a creative little daydreamer. I thank my parents for encouraging me to explore art, books, dance and whatever path I wanted to take without judgement.
