We had the good fortune of connecting with Déborah leclercq and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Déborah, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
to never give up and always be open and ready for new adventures
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
so my name is Déborah leclercq and I’m a 22 years old Parisian girl. I want to be an actress and I am passionate of drama and theater since the age of 15.
i studied in two different private drama shcools in Paris, graduated from high school , kept going with the drama studies and finished them a year ago.
two years ago I started posting videos of me singing on instagram. but I didn’t want to be a singer. I was about to be an actress and I only did that for fun.
one day, I was dm by a Belgian actor called Stephane de groodt saying he loved my voice and showed my profile to a friend of him.
this friend was a famous pianist called André Manoukian.
he told me he fell for my voice.
we met, I took the risk even though I didn’t want to be a musician or a singer, I saw it as a funny experience : we loved each other immediately and decided to make my first album. he believes in me so much , he gives me all the power I need to be a great human being.
in the same time as this funny adventure I was taken to play in a famous French tv show as I stopped my drama school, and I also played a few monts later in a play called around the world in 80 days.
I’ve learnt how hard those jobs are : music and cinema are though industries.
I’m trying my best not to give up to keep believing but it’s hard not to know what job you are going to do next month, or if you are even going to work again. I’m trying to learn to be patient and calm and to trust life. I’m still processing but the beauty of those jobs are worth it !
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
hmm I think I would definitely take them in my neighborhood, the 19th district in Paris. we could walk near the canal Saint Martin; drink coffees and croissants for breakfast at the terrasses, go to the movies, take an electric bike and feel the city around 6 pm, and go to see a play in le théâtre du palais royal for instance.
I would have dinner or a drink on a rooftop introduce him or her to my boyfriend, my mum, my girlfriends we could go shopping in the friperies around le Carreau du Temple in the 11th.
have a drink with the actors after the play that we saw.
I think I would also take him or her to Montmartre just to feel the mood and make a portait in the street.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think there would be my mum and dad, Rachel and John who always believed and pushed me when I told them I wanted to become an actress they always gave me good and wise advices when I had doubts and questions even though they knew nothing on this industry they gave me strength and love this is priceless !
and my musical mentor André Manoukian who came to me via instagram and made me believe that I could be someone great, that I could write songs on my own and that I was strong enough to sing those songs in front of hundreds of persons
