We had the good fortune of connecting with Dawn Apuan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dawn, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The biggest game-changer for me has been personal development – doing the hard inner work of letting go of limiting beliefs, reshaping my beliefs on money, and rewiring my subconscious mind for success. Business strategy is simple, and it’s not what holds most people back. I remember a mentor early on who said there’s no such thing as business problems, only personal problems. So I committed to the inner work with fierce determination. 80% of female business owners never make more than $50k/year. And, while women own 40% of the businesses, we generate only 4% of the overall revenue. I believe this has a lot to do with what goes on between our ears, and my commitment to mindset and abundance work has led to massive multi-6 figure success in my business, and I believe this is just the beginning.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Like most kids, I was told I could be anything when I grew up and that whatever I chose to do, if I loved it, I’d never work a day in my life. Well, for many years, like most Americans, work was “work.” I didn’t hate it, but I certainly wasn’t in love, enjoyed my weekends, and always looked forward to vacation. That is, until I discovered copywriting. I immediately fell in love – and my bank balance reflected it.

Prior to focusing on copywriting I was building funnels, running FB ads and doing affiliate marketing, but it wasn’t fulfilling and it wasn’t making me a lot of money. Nine months into that year I’d made about $2800. Then I decided to just do copywriting and I made more than $35k the next three months. I’d finally discovered what I loved, was good at, was paid well for, and didn’t feel like work! What I’d heard as a kid actually WAS true!

Now, I not only write done-for-you copy for my clients, I also coach copywriters to build profitable businesses. And, one of my favorite activities is serving as a copy consultant for other business coaches where I provide training and copy critique support to business owners in their programs.

I’m different from a lot of other copywriters because I bring spirituality into my writing. I believe our words hold energy and this is an important part of conveying a message that actually moves people to take action.

I don’t really think there’s an easy “straight line” of progress in business – more like a broken, jagged road of trying different things and going different ways before eventually finding your path to ultimate success. There’s been hard challenges for sure, but it’s been a beautiful journey and I’ve learned a lot along the way. I love my business and am so grateful for it, and even more grateful for what’s it’s provided for my family and how it’s absolutely changed our lives.

I went from being depressed and having panic attacks in an abusive job, to starting a business I love, being home to raise my daughter, working with incredible people having a massive impact in the world, retiring my husband, and so much more! Most days I have to pinch myself to believe it’s all real. I’m really proud of who I’ve become through the process and how I’ve been able to provide for my family.

Some of my biggest lessons were that everything always happens for my highest good in divine timing and everything happens FOR me not TO me. This helped me shift from victimhood to taking back my power. I also discovered how my thoughts create reality and that I had to do the inner work to create what I really wanted in life.

I’m passionate about people living life on fire doing what they love and I’m on a mission to make the world a better place. By supporting incredible coaches who are helping people transform their lives I get to be part of the ripple effect they have in changing the world one person at a time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love where I live and love hosting people. I’d take them to Neah Bay (the northwestern most corner of the contiguous United States), Mt. Rainier. the Puget Sound, and some of my favorite local parks. We’d definitely hit up my favorite sketchy Mexican joint for burritos, the Filipino bakery for donuts, and the Indian restaurant for delish curry. There’s lots to do and see, especially when the weather is nice. We’d enjoy great food, water, and mountains, but mostly important to me is the conversation and quality time while enjoying these activities.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the investments I’ve made in coaches and their programs over the years. There are SO many to thank, but I especially have deep gratitude to Rachel Ngom, Vanessa Hallick, Ray Edwards, Niyc Pidgeon, Jeanette Carbajal, Shiv Shetti, Adil Amarsi, and Zac Dixon. And last, but absolutely not least, my husband, who’s my biggest fan, constant cheerleader, and always believed in me and encouraged me to take the scary leaps of faith.
