Meet Davey Martinez | Builder & Engineer & Background Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Davey Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Davey, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
Ensuring that I have tough conversations with my daughter to empower her and develop a mindset of perseverance, effective leadership and resiliency. She is currently seven but beyond her years she is thoughtful, analytical and passionate about many things. Her open to new experiences is something that sets her apart because she is willing to already take chances, explore, ask questions, and understand. As I see her mind develop through her questions and thought processes, I can’t help but think how proud I am of how strong she is, how beautify she is, inside and out. I know she will be better than me and she helps me to be better for others too.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I was a kid, I use to trace the letters of astronomy books. I recall being captivated by the swirls and colors that made up the heavens in those large encyclopedia books filled with illustrations of the cosmos. I later discovered dinosaurs and became fascinated with drawing them. I got so good that I would compete for awards and gifts hosted by my school. I owe this artistic childhood fascination some credit because it carved the path of where I am now. I developed my skills in engineering, drawing, designing aerospace parts and now homes. But also building them and remodeling them. To say that starting your own small business is easy would be a dis-service. A lot of blood, sweat and tears back then and even some now. Overcoming these challenges takes a mindset of tremendous resiliency in the face of overwhelming odds. Of course, having someone to support and mentor you along the way is helpful and I owe that to my wife for being stronger than me when my mind told me otherwise. My business is being shaped everyday, but I hope to leave an imprint in my community that I care for military Veterans, and I built something for them to thank them for the tremendous sacrifices they made to this country.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend from Texas. We’d start with a nice breakfast at Aloha Stacks in Irvine. Some of the best breakfast and coffee in Irvine! We’d go bowling after, hit the batting cages in the afternoon and hit up the Ritz Carlton in Dana Point for dinner so he can catch a glimpse of the beaches. I’d definitely take him up to Morro Bay near San Luis Obispo for at least a two-day trip up the coast north on CA-1 and make a couple stops in Ventura and Doheny Beach. We’d catch the Queen Mary and the battleship in Long Beach cause I know he’s a hardcore military veteran and then end the week in Los Angeles with some dinner at 71above which is a sky high restaurant that overlooks the city and then the Edison for a night cap which is a cool 1920s vibe night club. Of course he’d bring his fiancé who he plans to marry soon! Would be a great double date! I honestly believe keeping things different makes for an interesting life. My wife and I love to do new things all the time and at least try new things every weekend. The worst that can happen is we don’t like it and don’t do it again. Sometimes just spending a whole day in a city, driving and walking around, you’ll find some interesting and different things to do.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My elementary school friend Gustavo and my pastor Bobby. Gustavo has been an inspiration in both succeeding and failing but when failing to have courage to not let that failure lock you out or define you. And my pastor Bobby for always preaching the good word as well as his motivating me to get after that goal. Many times I kept hearing Bobby say to take that opportunity and do not let it pass you by. Encouraging me to take risks and be the best I can be, put my all into it, and be happy with the risk and accept the challenges.
