Meet Darys Avalos | Immigration Consultant / Freelance Paralegal

We had the good fortune of connecting with DARYS AVALOS and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DARYS, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have been a Paralegal for the past 20 years and I have worked in different areas of law. Throughout my career, I have had an opportunity to meet lots of people from different walks of life and I always knew that I wanted to help other people in my community by offering one on one service. Specifically the latino community, because I would encounter clients that did not have the financial resources to hire an attorney, nor did they speak the language and therefore struggled to obtain help with their legal needs.
Over the years, the idea of starting my own immigration consultant business would always cross my mind, but I was concerned to branch out on my own after having a stable and successful career as a paralegal. During the pandemic, I realized that the need to help others was still in high demand, so I decided that it was time to start the process. My passion for law and dedication to helping others is what motivated me to pursue my dream of starting my immigration consulting business. This passion and seeing first hand the impact that I have been able to make by helping people in my community is what led me to launch Avalos Consulting Services.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Earlier this year, I obtained my Immigration Consultant bond and started marketing my services on social media.
I officially decided to launch my business a couple of months ago. It was a very hard decision, as I had recently obtained a position as a Senior Paralegal at one of the top law firms in San Diego, but after much thought, I knew that it was the correct decision.
It has not been an easy road, but I do not regret launching my business. My biggest challenge has been to learn how to manage all aspects of the business such as answering phone calls, creating content for the different social media platforms, staying up to date with immigration policies, preparing and editing videos, networking, accounting and so much more. I am still learning how to prioritize and organize the different tasks, since I am wearing lots of hats, but I am confident that with time, everything will fall into place. My drive and passion to build a business where I can offer one on one service in both English and Spanish, is what helps me push through the challenges. Although I am just starting this journey, I know that I am meant to do this and I am ready to help my community with immigration consulting and paralegal services.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family deserve a HUGE shoutout for continuously believing in me by supporting my decision to launch Avalos Consulting Services. My two daughters and husband are the ones who chose the business name and my mom’s prayers and support is what keeps me motivated. Also, my friends have helped me spread the word by sharing my business on their social media platforms, and they refer my services to their family/friends and constantly check in on me to cheer me on this new journey.
