We had the good fortune of connecting with Danny Deraney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danny, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to create an atmosphere to work with clients that not only bring me joy, but also have the ability to choose who I want to work with and make me happy. It was important to me to focus on my own happiness. If you are not happy with what you do, then you should probably not be doing it. I love my job.

What should our readers know about your business?
I love what I do. Plain and simple. I love working with artists, writers and organizations who not only entertain us, but also have something to say or do not have the resources to speak up.

I got to where I was by simply working hard and at the same time, loving what I do.

In 2009, the company I was with folded. I had no choice to start my own business which gave me the opportunity to work with clients I wanted to. It was not easy, because I had to build a roster. I had to work hard in finding those clients. I was fortunate to have my previous clients wanting to work with me and more fortunate to have clients trust in me. Without trust in your clients and vice versa, you have nothing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a born and raised Angeleno so a day at Zuma Beach is mandatory. I am a big hockey fan and would easily take them to an LA Kings game at Crypto. Arena. I would take them to some of the historic places that are rich in our history such as Venice and maybe a nice lunch at Playa Provisions or Phillipe’s. I would definitley take them to a show at the Pantages with a nice dinner at Musso and Franks,

They also make a mean Manhattan at the Gallery Bar and Cognac Room in the Biltmore.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have two people in my work life that I want to give credit to. Those would be Sally Jewett, Maya Burghardt and Stacie Hunt. These three women were not only leaders in my previous work life, but they believed in me right from the get go in my career in public relations.

They not only gave me the confidence in my abilities, but also the passion to do my best work.
