Meet Danity Zann | Drag Performer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Danity Zann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danity, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a career in performing because there is no greater joy than transporting people out of the day to day, and letting them forget their reality. To see smiles, and hear an audience be in that moment with you is such a rush. Plus, who doesn’t want to live their best diva moment covered in glitter and sparkle? Drag is a great escape, and he brought out my inner super hero.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Drag is such a unique art form. Each of us are our own artist. Each of us has developed our alter ego uniquely. The amazing part about drag, we make our own rules. It is highly competitive for the gigs, but equally as supportive. It is a sisterhood. It was definitely hard to break into the LA scene initially, but thanks to the Dragged Out competition, and opportunities with other shows, I was able to show I was a force. I came into Dragged Out as probably one of the least known, and 14 weeks later, walked away with the crown.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would DEFINITELY take a best friend to West Hollywood! It is diverse, welcoming, and such a great time. We would definitely hit a drag show or two (must support my sisters)! The Abbey, Mickeys, Rocco’s…all amazing fun!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people to thank, that either believed in me, or weren’t afraid to take a chance on me. Billy Francesca hosts so many events in Los Angeles and West Hollywood, and in particular, a 14 week competition called Dragged Out. That competition gave me so much experience and exposure and I couldn’t thank Billy enough for that opportunity. Bob Pranga for letting me be part of the LGBTQIA+ exhibit in the Hollywood Museum. My drag sister, Jackette Knightley for keeping me WORKING! She really has become family to me.
