We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniela Sarcos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniela, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Since an early age I’ve always wanted to be my own boss and often talked about one day having my own business. Being artistic my whole life it was a matter of time until I found the medium I could express myself through art and build a business in the process. Henna did just that for me. I always thought I was going to be a graphic designer but after the first semester I realized it was not for me, so I dropped out of school and moved to California from Venezuela back in 1997.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Henna comes from the leaves of the henna plant that has the property to stain the skin or hair naturally. I am able to make my own paste so it’s 100% organic and safe to use.

Working doing henna body art Its a very therapeutic and also rewarding job. People of all ages get so excited when getting henna tattoos that its joyful to watch. One of my favorite things to work on are pregnant bellies. I also do henna crowns for people that are going through chemo.

Mostly, I get hired for events or parties anywhere from corporate to private birthdays, showers, weddings etc.

I also have an outdoor set up at home where I take clients. Henna is fun for everyone!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I will have to say my hometown here in Oceanside. It has changed so much in the last 20 years. We now have the most amazing restaurants, fun hotels by the pier. The sunset market is one of the funnest nights and if you are a foodie is a must! So many cool spots to visit it will be hard to name them all but anywhere along the coast between vista way and harbor drive theres so much to see, try and discover. In my opinion Oceanside has it all and I’m blessed to call this town home.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My sister Denise. She was the one that encouraged me to start doing henna here in Oceanside since she had already started doing it in Hawaii and had a lot of success with it. She also does face painting and air brush temporary tattoos and currently has a spot in Haleiwa town on the North shore of Oahu.
