Meet Dane Mora | Singer/Guitarist of Au Revoir Heart

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dane Mora and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dane, what do you attribute your success to?
I think being happy is a really important factor behind my success. Finding joy and love in what I do helps keep me motivated to push forward. It’s important for myself and my band mates that we all feel nothing but love towards what we do.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I began playing guitar when I was 7, eventually went on to play with the worship band at our local Calvary Chapel. I didn’t feel like church was for me and my parents were going through a separation so I eventually left the worship team and put my music aside. When I was 17 my Dad passed away and around the same time I lost my best friend and Grandma as well. I was in a really bad spot mentally and decided to pick up again on my writing. I went down a bad path of self medication and suicidal tendencies that ultimately led me right back to my love of music. After releasing some music and playing some open mics in Pomona, CA. I decided to start my band “Au Revoir Heart” and I’m happy to say we’re going strong 3 years later. If it wasn’t for my music, my band members, and the support from community we have built around it, I don’t think I would be here today. None of it was easy, but it was very much worth it. Our first EP was all recorded on a cell phone so if I was able to make it happen like that, then I think anyone can.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I was showing someone around my area I’d be sure to start them off with Red Hill Park in Rancho Cucamonga. There’s a beautiful pond you can sit at and watch the duckies swim. Another cool spot would probably be Mount Baldy, which is cliché for people in my area, but it truly is the most beautiful spot close by. For food we’d head down to Ontario to “Tamazulena” AKA “TAMA” for some tortas. After some good Mexican food it’s essential to grab a drink, so I’d head over to the Blackwatch Pub in Upland, one of the best dives in town, with some of the best “people-watching” around. To end it all off we’d head to “IE CHROME” studios in Montclair to hang out with Moe and the “Chromies”. This cool local band “Don Luxe” is always playing gigs there so you’re bound to have a good time. That’s probably the best local tour I could give.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All my love for music I owe to my parents. They nurtured my creative talents more than anything and constantly did what they could to expand them as well. My dad always pushed me to be a musician like my brother and when he passed in 2013 of cancer I figured the best way to make him proud would be to do what he raised me to. My mom also has a killer vinyl collection that really helped shape my music taste.
