We had the good fortune of connecting with Dandan Pan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dandan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Haddee.com was born in the middle of Covid-19 pandemic as a H.O.T. project (Help Our Teachers). As a chief growth officer for ALO7.com (English: http://www.alo7.com/en/), a cutting-edge education tech company and top B2B Digital English Curriculum Provider, I personally observed our teachers’ teaching hours being reduced. Schools across the globe were being shut down, impacting teachers physically, professionally, socially, and financially. This motivated me to create Haddee, which aims to help our teachers, who in turn help our students. We have a database of close to 100K teachers, most of whom are in the US and have decades of classroom experience.
In July of 2021, all the Alo7 teachers lost their work due to an education policy change. Suddenly, thousands of teachers are not allowed to teach online to their students in Asia. This change made me more determined to help our teachers. Through this process, we also realized that many in-person coaches and teachers (music, sports, dancing, etc) lost their students during the pandemic. That’s why Haddee is becoming an inclusive platform that is aimed to help and empower high-quality freelancer educators and coaches who can render their service to mass markets starting with K-12 students.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Haddee was founded to help our teachers who help our students. We are aiming to become a high-quality live session (teaching / coaching) online & in-person platform for all providers who deeply care about their students / clients, K-12 & adults.
As we have a large database of 100K English / Humanity teachers, our initial goal is to help these teachers who help K-12 students. Then we find out our students need STEM subject coaching. Hence we start bring top college students who are able to coach AP STEM subjects (Cal AB/BC, AP Bio, Chem, etfc).
As Covid restriction is lifted, we are working with providers who lost students / clients during Covid like in-person music teachers.
Most initial clients are K-12 students, but more college students and adults who are needing help as well. We start launching programs for adult students who are mainly our parents.
Through this process, we become more confident in our founding principle, helping our teachers who help our students. However, as teaching and coaching is a long term service which is very human centric and subjective, scaling a service platform like this can be challenging. Much time needs to be spent with clients before they are willing to try. No matter how much we invest into marketing, most of clients are only coming to Haddee due to referrals. Scaling a service platform is extremely challenging.
Regardless the scaling challenges, we are determined to carry forward and help one teacher at a time who help our students.
Haddee is becoming a high-quality brand and will continue to be high-quality as we put our teachers’ and students’ interest as our top priority.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend to Torrey Pines State Park for hiking.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
