We had the good fortune of connecting with Dali Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dali, how does your business help the community?
We make beer! Our breweries were built with community in mind, first and foremost- we wanted to bring craft beer which was lacking in our neighborhood. If no one was bringing it because our demographics were overlooked, we created it in our community walking distance from our home.
Our taprooms were designed to be used fully by our community for all events, we are family friendly- pet friendly and we know first hand that beer brings people of all backgrounds together.
What should our readers know about your business?
We are an award winning brewery in Chula Vista. Our focus is quality, community and commitment. We look forward to promoting our community with anyone that is our guest.
We are the only Black owned brewery in all of San Diego (and brown owned too), ran by my husband who is a Navy Veteran and myself.
Some of the challenges we faced when we began our journey mainly stemmed from funding and obtaining capital- we are the only investors here, just us two. Truly family owned and ran. In our journey, we found that working with your neighborhood banks vs the “big guys” was more favorable to our purpose. Our local banks are invested in our communities and neighborhoods just like us.
My advise to anyone looking to start their own business is go out there, find out what resources are available to you. There are great organizations such as Accessity who provides resources and networking events to small business owners. Also, look into Sam Adam’s Brewing the American Dream- they provide incredible resources to entrepreneurs that help keep the magic going.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow great question- I am absolutely supporting my Chula Vista Third Avenue strip where you can find amazing bakeries, breweries such as mine, taprooms, family owned restaurants, vintage shops- you can make a day (or night) out of it and really enjoy yourself all while supporting small family owned businesses.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am forever grateful to Therapy Specialists and the Harris Family. This is a family owned business that offers Outpatient, Pediatric and Senior Care led by incredible, strong women leaders and it is here where I learned the value of integrity, commitment and dedication.
I had the honor of working side by side with Heidi Trivelpiece whom was an incredible mentor to me, and she now recently opened her own practice, Community Care Physical Therapy in Miramar- she provides care to military (active and retired), and Medicare insured clients and also offers hand therapy up north. I would not be where I am without the support, encouragement and autonomy the women I surrounded myself with provided.
