We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Legenhausen (Harris) and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born and raised in Encinitas, California. Growing up in a small west coast beach town has greatly impacted who I am in regards to lifestyle and fashion. Although I live on the East coast now, people often mention that my home and my sense of style make it apparent that I am from California. As a child, I spent my days on the beach, collecting shells and plant life which has fueled my life-long passion as a designer. Throughout our product line you will find earthy textures, beautiful botanicals and beach-life inspired pieces. Each of these designs comes from a rooted belief that you should wear what makes you feel beautiful and connected to nature.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My husband and I created Lotus Jewelry Studio was created in 2007 as our plan was to step away from the fine-jewelry world that we had careers in ,at that time. Our goal was to create a brand that was fun, playful & exciting. Leaning on our refined skills as fine jewelers, we created a jewelry brand that has stood the test of time and has reached all corners of the globe! Starting a business from the ground up can be grueling work but if you love what you do, it is also exciting. In the beginning years we worked relentlessly. We were hungry and driven which made us unstoppable. We quickly tapped into the wholesale industry and began to build partnerships and hire sales reps. After that, the sky was the limit and the company began to grow and thrive at a rapid rate.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since I was raised in Encinitas, I have a soft spot for the original local spots. The Pannikin is always going to be the top of my list, followed closely by Raúl’s Taco shop for lunch. I practically grew up at Grandview Beach and it will always have a big place in my heart. Anyone who comes to town should check the lineup at The Belly Up and pop over to Pizza Port for the best pizza around. Lastly, I love the Del Mar racetrack and you have to get a fish taco from Brigantine while you’re in town.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
By far my biggest supporter and confidant is my husband, Erik Legenhausen. He is also my business partner and we have always felt that together, everything is possible! We make a powerhouse duo in business and we have always been there for each other to cheer each other one and help each other up along the way.
