We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Birtell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
Being a MOM has always been my biggest goal in life. Raising kids to stand up for what they believe in, in an unloving world, because they have internal confidence & focus. My children watch me on a daily basis. They see me work hard (long days with clients), hustle and motivate myself. They have also watched me struggle and always rise back up. They know I am not perfect and I know they are not as well. We are all just trying to do the very best that we can. As parents, we have the ultimate opportunity to make an impact on lives daily…our kids! We are growing the next generation of our world. Teaching them rights, wrongs and how to navigate in a world where we are easily lost in the daily shuffle of things. I think the most important thing I’ve done in my parenting life is instill my children with a moral compass, teaching them to love people fully (regardless of their imperfections) and to never give up. Life is full of challenges, but as a parent, I believe it’s our job to be the safety net for our kids as they grow up. To be the safe place they came land when tough times come. To push them to be the very best they can be. I love being a REALTOR, but being a MOM has been my favorite job by far. Watching these kids grow, leave our home & navigate adulthood is the best feeling in the world.

What should our readers know about your business?
About my business…I’m a MOM of six and a REALTOR. I think of both as businesses. Both definitely have their struggles and challenges. Both demand so much attention & attention to detail. Both make it worth it. Why?

The MOM aspect, I have gotten to see three of my six kids so far, grow into adulthood and begin to venture out into the world. One is proudly serving in our Air Force. One is going to start his sophomore year at UC Santa Cruz in the fall. And one is starting her freshman year at TCU this fall. We still have three more to raise into adult hood, but getting them to that point was not easy but was totally worth it. I still have sleepless nights of worry about them as they learn lessons along the way, but I also have confidence each one will figure it out. And boy does this motherhood gig demand time & energy, and thankfully I have been blessed with extra energy and always find the time to be there when my kids need me.

The Realtor aspect is kind of the same. We all start things as newbies with no clue what to do or how to grow it (including motherhood). As a Realtor, I had to learn to navigate all the hurdles of the business from getting the schooling done for my license, passing my test (thankfully I passed my first try), finding the right brokerage, starting out my career on an amazing team, learning and growing daily in my real estate knowledge and then putting that into practice. Real estate is a 24 hour a day job somedays. I’m not joking. Clients, just like children, can be demanding and needy…but for good reason. My job is to help them through the entire process of buying or selling a home. It’s one of the most stressful and most expensive things we do in our entire life. I am still learning something new everyday, because everyday I am working with someone new. Each transaction has unique things about it that challenges me and helps me grow as a professional. Being a Realtor can also bring some financial challenges. We don’t get paid till we close deals. We work for free a lot. We spend money to make money, but the money is never guaranteed. It’s like a rollercoaster ride, but it’s the thrill of seeing my clients happy in the end that makes it worth the ride. I work hard for each and every client. I pour my time, attention and creativity into navigating every transaction with positivity and determination. And yes, this job demands a lot of time & energy as well. As my kids grow into adulthood, I am transitioning more of my time to real estate, so I’ll never be bored…and I am A-OK with that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love where we live! It’s part of what makes selling it so easy! The Temecula & Murrieta Valley is ideal for families who love to be outside. We are only an hour drive from some amazing Southern California beaches. Temecula wine country is right down the street (to wine taste or just enjoy a glass of wine in one of the amazing wineries) and maybe eat in Old Town Temecula for lunch. If the mountains are calling, we are just a little over an hour away from Lake Arrowhead. Or even a little over an hour away from the outskirts of Orange County/LA.

I have always wanted to do a day trip with my bestie…where we start the morning in San Diego (have breakfast in Gas Lamp & walk on the beach), drive to Temecula and do some wine tasting (or hot air balloon ride over the wineries) & lunch in Old Town at Lukes, then head to Lake Arrowhead before sunset to see the sun set on the lake and then stay the night at a cute boutique airbnb. You really can’t beat the fact we live so close to all these things and doing all these things in ONE DAY is possible.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d have to say my shoutout goes to JESUS. Might sound cheesy or corny…but HE has been the constant in my life from the time I was young to now. Having a firm foundation in my faith, helps me navigate through negatives life throws my way. It helps me love people who are sometimes unlovable. It helps me work in a world where people need more positivity and less BAD NEWS! It helps me focus on being a blessing and not what I will get back in return. Because of my faith, I have become successful. In motherhood, in my work life and in life in general. My influence is contagious, I believe, only because of the JESUS people see in me. They may not realize it, but I truly believe it’s what magnetizes people to me…and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT! So yeah, I’d say JESUS!
