We had the good fortune of connecting with Corrin Crain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Corrin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After practicing therapy for nearly 10 years in a variety of settings including community non-profit, middle schools and high schools, intensive outpatient/partial hospitalization and group private practice, I became the founder of Greater View Therapy.

I felt that, at this point in my career, it was time to take the leap of faith to open my own private therapy practice.

I wanted to build a space for clients that felt inclusive and safe while also valuing my own work-life balance.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My private practice is called Greater View Therapy

Why “Greater View?” | We all come from somewhere: our identities, our ancestors, our experiences, our relationships. We all come from a unique point of view. The beauty of therapy is its ability to highlight the strengths that exist within our viewpoint, while offering fresh lenses through which to see the world. My practice is founded on the principal that therapy is not “one-size-fits-all.” Greater View Therapy aims to challenge the points of view that may no longer be serving clients – the ones that may have been influenced by society, marginalization and systemic injustices – while also unveiling the power and resilience that clients already possess.

I wanted to build a practice to aide clients in taking practical steps to create positive and manageable change utilizing evidence-based practices and a trauma-informed approach.

I specialize in working with adults, adolescents and families living with depression, anxiety, trauma, and challenges in relationships. I also have significant experience working in higher levels of care settings and with folks navigating substance use, disordered eating, personality disorders, suicidal ideation and self-harm.

My practice engages a trauma-informed approach with the evidenced-based practices of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness. Most importantly, I will approach you with a person-centered lens; drawing on your strengths and experiences to tailor treatment to your specific needs and point of view.

I aim to de-construct stigma and shame and provide a safe, inclusive, and affirming environment to empower clients towards healing.

On a personal note, I am a proud Latina therapist that brings forth an understanding of the intersection of identities and all the challenges and celebration that may bring.

When I am not in my office, I enjoy exploring hidden gems in San Diego, seeing live music, practicing yoga, and spending quality time with my friends, family and shiba inu, Bilbo Waggins.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Downtown/Little Italy day: Breakfast at Morning Glory, walk around Seaport Village, Lunch at the Brigantine at Portside Pier, Padres game or concert at Petco Park, Drinks at the Speakeasy False Idol and/or Nobel Experiment

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Kara Kimball, LCSW

Kara is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and was my supervisor at an intensive treatment facility. She is the best boss I have ever had and a huge inspiration to me in opening my private practice. She herself owns a private practice and is one of the best therapists I know! I could not have done this without her!
