We had the good fortune of connecting with Conner Thomerson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Conner, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Music has always been an essential thing in my life. The whole process of making a record is a fantastic experience if you do it with the right group of people. I chose an artistic career because the thought of making music that potentially better/help someone’s day is a big enough accomplishment for me. Furthermore, the music community is just a safe place; ANYONE is welcome, no judgment, no negativity, only people bettering and helping one another to become the best that they can be.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an Audio Engineer out of San Diego, CA; I mainly work with Hardcore/Metal bands out of the north county area. Still, as I started doing more, I find myself working on a little bit of everything from Music to Audiobooks/Podcasts. What I have learned working in this industry is that don’t limit yourself, keep busy, and, most of all, challenge yourself. This industry isn’t just recording bands in a studio. The Audio world is so big, and if you find something, you can sink your teeth into, your job won’t feel like a job.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Id first takes them to Black Plague Brewery, where Full Metal Burgers serve their famous burgers in Vista, CA. Then following morning, we would start the day at The Yellow Deli with a fresh coffee and a healthy organic breakfast. I am an outdoors guy, so hiking is a big part of my day. My favorite trail is probably Annie’s Canyon Trail in Encinitas, CA. My last place id take them is La Especial Norte for some authentic Mexican food and then tide pool exploring at Seaside beach.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank all of the Studio West Recording Arts Center members for Pushing me to become a better Engineer/Musician and all of my colleagues, who now call my personal friends, who have helped me throughout my music career.
