We had the good fortune of connecting with Community Plate Initiative and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Community Plate, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
We are working to curtail food inequality in our community, and taking aim at the nutrition gap caused by economic stratification. In addition, we try to tackle issues such as lack of personal essentials including hygiene items and clothes.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We’re a collective of diverse individuals from varied backgrounds. Our president, Antonio, is a UCSD grad and plans to continue his many years of community service through CPI. He has been essential to our formation because of his previous non profit experience. We utilize all our members skills, such as our Secretary who is a photographer with a vision that is different from her peers. Our treasurer, Erik, grew up around the kitchen and has always loved food. He is pursuing a degree in agriculture and following in his passion to deliver and integrate fresh produce into the community. He works hand in hand with our head chef, Robert, who has experience cooking high quality, nutritious meals. His background cooking for one of the best restaurants in San Diego, is essential for our execution of our mission. Not only do we provide a diverse portfolio of meals, but we hold ourselves to the same standards held in a quality restaurant. (Including keeping the meals hot)

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of our favorite spots would have to be Windansea beach for their notorious shorebreak, and definitely a local favorite, Pizzeria Luigi. Other than that, we’re going to the best view in SD at Mt. Soledad.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The Big Kitchen and Pokez! And a BIG RIP to Gods Extended Hand. We’ve worked with members of our community to provide essential resources to our neighbors in need. Their help has been crucial in continuing our mission to alleviate hunger within our San Diego community.
