We had the good fortune of connecting with Collin Grigg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Collin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I launched Swim in Suits to add value to people’s lives. Since the original suit was made in 2009, every time I’ve worn it, to vegas pools, random parties, scuba diving, the beach, whatever, people always ask me about it and often try to buy it from me! What’s neat is how easy it is to make a connection or friend when you have a distraction like a Suit made from swimwear material to break the ice. Basically, I thought to myself, “how many times have I been at a social venue and by the end it feels more inclusive…and why?” I wanted to give the experiences I’ve had to other people.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Swim in Suits connects the world’s revelers through innovative swimwear. It’s also said to be a social experience by those who wear one! Our suits are made with 100% Italian, stretchy swimwear material, and they are perfect for anything from a day at the pool, a theme party, or anywhere with an invitation that says, “bring a swim suit….”

Our biggest challenge was launching a social brand immediately before the coronavirus lockdowns. We also dealt with international shipping restrictions for fabric and a manufacturer who shut down in production! The pools closed. Beaches closed. Social interactions closed; but we when people did go out again, they would be more social than ever before!

I encourage people to believe in the vision of their ideas! Take the risks. Do the thing. It’s the only way to develop and grown in ways never before thought possible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
San Diego has so much to offer, and the true value is the people who fill the places. A pool party would only be a pool without the people to party in it!!

Rooftop Pool parties and Coronado/Pacific Beach hold a special place in my life (and a great place to wear a Swim Suit, of course!).

When I’m not working I find myself frequently at the family owned “R&G Salumeria Wine Bar”(https://www.rgwinebar.com/) enjoying great company and amazing food and wine. Check it out if you’re in Little Italy, San Diego. They also launched right before the coronavirus lockdowns, and it was amazing to see the local community support them in difficult times.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s a reason you never hear about successes of people as individuals! This brand was brought to life with huge support from a lifetime friend of mine, Jake. He is proficient in areas I’m not, and I couldn’t have gotten this far without his help. I’ve also received amazing support from friends and friends of friends with content, branding, and things I never knew about when I started designing garments like search engine optimization and other e-commerce goodies.

I had a great mentor tell me that networking is about giving, and when I applied that I found I was getting the help I needed in return. My challenge to you reading this is when people tell you about a project they are working on or something they are excited about, genuinely ask them how you can help or think of people you know who you can connect them to- and expect nothing in return. That’s what it’s all about! Imagine if everyone helped everyone. The world can be a better place, and we have the power.
