Meet Colin Wittlich | CEO COSMOtravels

We had the good fortune of connecting with Colin Wittlich and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Colin, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
In order to explain the idea of COSMOtravels adequately, I have to take a big leap back to my childhood. Since I was 1 year old I traveled around the world with my parents. My father planned individual trips for himself, friends and family since he was a teenager. So I had the opportunity to be in (for Germans) very unusual travel countries at an early age and learn a lot about different cultures, countries and people.
The biggest dream of my father was to provide other people with the same trips that we could experience through individual planning, but his well-paid job and the obligation to take care of his family stood in his way.
When I heard about this dream I was immediately excited. After graduating from high school, I flew to Peru with my father for a month, where we set the first foundations for COSMOtravels. Shortly thereafter, my best friend joined the company and became immediately enthusiastic about it.
He had many negative experiences with conventional package tours and wanted to make completely customized traveling the standard in the modern world.
Since 2019, we have convinced hundreds of people to travel individually and planned worldwide trips for our customers in Germany. Today, we are happy to announce that we plan to serve customers who are not living in the greater area of Germany with our high quality service.

What should our readers know about your business?
As a tour operator for individual travel, we had to deal with many difficulties and strong competition right at the time of our founding. Since we founded in Germany, the factor of paperwork, licenses and insurance played a big role. As a newcomer to entrepreneurship, we were thrown in at the deep end and had to deal day after day and night after night with issues that you would never think about as a regular human being. After we had used all registers of our knowledge and all help from the outside, which was available to us, we finally managed to overcome all formalities and initial bureaucratic obstacles and thus to build up a company according to German standards. \nWhen this step was done, we thought that the worst was over, but of course we were wrong. The next step was to find partners, build a website, create a corporate identity and much more. Fortunately we had a lot of help from our business angel, but this does not mean that we had nothing to do. Over 3 months we planned, designed, produced and acquired without a break and with only little sleep in the meantime. But as we learned, with hard work, focus and dedication comes success. In the following year, we were able to make the journey of their dreams possible for many people.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Most of what we learned on our way we learned through our businessangle at INGE-Consulting. Without them we would not be at the point we are at today and we are incredibly happy to have such a competent and experienced partner at our side. INGE has helped us especially in the areas of process development, website building and in the creation of our corporate identity. We can only advise every founder to look for such a businessangle to start with.
