Meet Codi Johnson | Social Media Strategist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Codi Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Codi, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
I want to be able to fully work for myself and with the steps I’ve put into place now, I think I’m getting close to that goal.

My philosophy when it comes to social is that it is not just another channel where you throw content on it and hope it sticks. I focus a lot of my time on creating a robust social strategy that aligns with the overall business goals. and discarding the fluffy stuff. Oftentimes business owners come to me because their social “sucks”, but I like to look at their business goals and strategy first before giving a full plan. People are so quick to want to fix social, but they need to look at the bigger picture, and that’s where I come in. While I am a social media strategist, my skills vary in brand strategy, and overall marketing strategy, so I like to hone in on that with every client I work with. Asking the hard questions.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I LOVE Mission Beach!!! All the beaches in San Diego are amazing, but Mission Beach has my heart. I love the liveliness of the city, the people, and the food. My favorite spot in Mission is Draft Bar. They have the best ocean view and delicious nachos ;).
You can’t go wrong with Gaslamp either. Henry’s Pub for some good eats, drinks, and dancing.
Little Italy would be my next move. Such a cute town with some of the best eateries around. Mimmo’s for dinner and dessert. Might take a stroll to Salt & Straw for their Pear & Blue Cheese ice cream. PLEASE TRY IT BEFORE YOU KNOCK IT!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to thank my dad for introducing me to the world of marketing. I’ve been hooked ever since (circa 2015). He is very supportive and has guided me throughout my marketing and freelancing journey. I’d also like to give thanks to my Twitter friends, who have been amazingly supportive throughout this time. Over the course of a year, I’ve picked up a lot of clients, and this is mainly due to my Twitter network sending referrals my way. Last but not least, I want to acknowledge the support of my husband. He encourages me to keep going, gives me the space to be me, and for that I thank him!! I have a lot of support behind me, I am very thankful.
