We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Rounds and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was mainly a stay-at-home mom of 3 kids, who dabbled in Real Estate. My husband had just told me that he wanted a divorce after 5 or so years of marriage. I, naturally started to freak out so I answered a craigslist ad. Someone was looking for an assistant at a Real Estate/Property management brokerage. I started working for $10 an hour for a few hours a day, while the kids were in school. I hadn’t told my husband that I had started working, I just started to pay some bills. Eventually, the Broker asked me if I wanted a couple of properties to manage, which I so gladly accepted and it was built from there. I had my own portfolio and found that I have a knack for property management and genuinely enjoy the challenge and relationship building of my career. I have since moved on to another brokerage and run the property management side of things.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am so lucky to be able to do what I love. What gets me excited is I see myself as being the glitter in my client’s lives. Even though I am small and sparkly, they are the ones that take the glitter I give and make it into magic by creating memories that will last a lifetime. Buying and selling a home is a stressful process, but also so fulfilling. I get to walk them through the process and hold hands while encouraging them through the tough parts and celebrate when we’ve closed! We will likely go through every human emotion possible, but once completed, they are the happiest to be able to get through their next chapter in life. Whether it’s moving on to a bigger home, downsizing, buying an investment property, or first-time home buying, it’s a great feeling to see the smiling faces, hand over keys and know that you have made a difference in their lives and such an honor, that they’ve chosen me to do so. What got to me where I am today, is my mother. She has always taught me that I help others first. Which probably wasn’t the best thing to do, as I eventually had to learn how to balance self-care VS helping people. But it set the tone for my business and my community work/love of people. I have recently had to learn how important it was to take care of me so that I could take care of my business and all the other things I have added to my plate because I am so eager to help people and I have also learned how to be grateful with all the things I currently have. As long as I keep growing and learning myself, I know I will be the best glitter for my clients and my community!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oof, this is tough! I am the Vice-Chair of the San Diego County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce! Do you know what you’re asking of me!?! Sight seeing is easy, Mt. Soledad and Mt. Helix have the best views! We would definitely be hiking Torrey Pines. Day trip to Julian to grab some pie and hug the winding roads with the tops off the Jeep. Coronado has the best views on their walk way by the Ferry and park and the views are spectacular. The Ferry is a must! Riding bikes is so fun! Neighborhoods to visit will definitely be Barrio Logan/Chicano Park. My favorite brewery is Attitude Brewery, the Jubilant is awesome! Food place, Barrio Dogg, the most filling hot dog you will ever have filled with anything you can possibly think of. Old Town is a favorite, Coyote Cafe has big margaritas that you’re supposed to share with someone and I never do! It’s also a great place to walk around. Casual dining will be North Park- also full of breweries but the favorite food of choice there is Dunedin!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I most certainly do have some shout outs. They would go to my life coaches. I have had several in the last few years and they helped me find and embrace who I was always meant to be. I am forever grateful. Rachelle Caco Cambria Berger Luci Lampe Reginald Mckiver Recently, I have been able to really look to someone who I have really only met once. From the first time I met her, she was just so mothering. She gave me that unsolicited advice, that was full of love and support. I call her my “fairy godmother” and I know I can call her at any moment and she will talk me through whatever it needs to be. I adore her so much. Thank you Michelle Agha, for being my rock.
