We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Siglin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christian, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I would have to say that being successful comes down to how you treat the people that come through your doors, whether they are employees, guests, vendors, etc… Treating people how you’d like to be treated goes a long way. We are in the hospitality business and I want people that work here to feel welcome and to extend that same warmth to our guests.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been in the hospitality industry for over 20 years and getting to the ownership side of the business has been a long time in the making. I initially started working in hotels and then left the industry all together to pursue a career in commercial real estate and then back to hospitality. I realized I hated my real estate career and I loved my bar jobs, so I made the choice to go all in and find a way to own my own place. There were countless hurdles and obstacles along the way, but I always tried to stay true to what I thought was right and now I’m in a position to put my money where my mouth is.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being in San Diego, we have great weather and are close to so many cool things. I would start off with hitting my favorite coffee shop, Dark Horse, and then get the day started. Since my best friends all surf, we would go to Blacks Beach almost every day to get in some exercise and surfing. For a solid local dinner spot we would hit a couple places, Tribute Pizza for the best pizza in SD, Finca for some killer tapas and vino, Mabel’s Gone Fishing for seafood and cocktails, Juan Jasper for steaks a solid wine, Turf Supper Club for late night eats and martini’s. We would make stops at Cantina Mayahuel for tacos and tequila/mezcal, Live Wire for drinks and the best juke box in town. At least one day we would go down to Mexico and surf, grab some tacos at Tacos El Yaki in Rosarito, Lobster in Puerto Nuevo, Deckman’s or Finca Altozano in Valle de Guadalupe and lastly make a stop in TJ for Taconazo and a Caesar Salad at Caesar’s. We would basically just eat and drink our way through the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife has been a huge part in making my dream of opening a bar a reality. She has put up with me working non-stop, missing special occasions, bitching about life, etc.
