We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Yarranton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always been driven to help people in the most impactful way possible. While working with clients at a gym, or training swimmers on the team I worked for, I began to realize that being affiliated with one company actually prevented me from helping ANY person who needed/wanted my help. I began my business to bring health awareness, fitness training, and wellness guidance to ALL people. Now I can work with people who want to train outside at a park/beach, in their garage, or at their home gym. I can coach people on creating a healthy lifestyle or train them virtually anywhere in the country. I created my business to provide people with quality, experienced, and affordable access to health!

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart from others is that I make health and fitness available to people in every way possible. Whether it is meeting in a public place, training in the comfort of their own home, or training virtually, I am the trainer who can go with people wherever they need to be. I have many clients who travel for work, and they train virtually when they are out of town. Consistency is the hardest part about training, and my. business model allows for consistency even when live makes consistency hard.

I got to where I am today through tenacity. Owning your own business can be taxing. It has ups and downs that can unsettle you unless you have a clear goal and a solid plan. I overcame challenges such as COVID-19 by adapting. I took my plan and I adjusted to the new reality that was surrounding us. My goal has always been to be the rock for people who want a healthier life. Through thick and thin, I showed up for my clients, and my believe and fortitude is what allowed me and my business to not only survive, but thrive in the new normal that COVID-19 created.

My brand and story is built on being broken. When I was at UCSD, I swam for the UCSD Swim Team. I got injured through incorrect form when I was power lifting. In high school, I injured myself time and time again and had to go through physical therapy in order to come back stronger than years prior. My lesson from all of this was that form is everything. Knowing not only what to do, but how to do it, when to do it, and why to do it is key. I built a business model surrounding the keys of awareness, understanding, and implementation. These are the three items that I believe are essential to creating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout is to my wife, Anya Yarranton. When we first met, Strength First Fitness was just a nugget of an idea in the back of my mind. When I finally divulged my dreams to Anya, she supported me and backed me without a second guess. Entrepreneurship is all about weathering the ups and downs of business. When the boat is rocking, and your confidence waivers, it’s the people who have a strong support system that stick through and watch their business succeed. Anya was my rock then, and continues to be my rock now. So my shoutout is to her. From all of the coffee dates we spent business planning or brand designing, to her understanding and supporting me getting up before sunrise to work on the business. Thank you to my wonderful wife!
