We had the good fortune of connecting with Chloe Daniels and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chloe, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I kind of fell into it! I’ve always been a bit entrepreneurial– I started working when I was 9 years old at concession stands, baby sitting, and always taking on side gigs. In my early 20s, my love for trying things out on the side continued, and when I started learning about money (because I had been so bad with money!) I realized that I absolutely LOVED personal finance, and felt the urge to teach about it. Once I started writing about money online and sharing on social media– it kind of took off and folks wanted a way to work with me, so I started offering 1:1 coaching, workshops– and eventually as my books got too full, I switched into program based education.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a financial educator and content creator over at Clo Bare– which is a platform that offers free and paid financial literacy training, tools, and educational resources to teach people how to build wealth “the lazy way.”

Since 2021– I’ve
-Generated over $1.4 million in digital product sales
-Increased monthly revenue from $5K to $60K
-Grew my email list to over 100K subscribers
-Grown my social media presence to over 330k followers

My ultimate goal is to provide education in a way that is fun, easy to understand, and accessible — without the overwhelm, shame, and confusion often associated with finances.

How I got here:

Trial and error! I am a huge believer of getting started and figuring the rest out as you go– which is really what has allowed me to grow this business. There have been a LOT of challenges along the way– here’s a few:

1. Knowing how to scale the business
It’s one thing to hit your first $5k or $10k month– but knowing how to scale that in a way that works for you is really difficult and comes with a lot of ups and downs. For me– scaling was made easier by focusing on one product for the first 2 years, hiring help, and working with a business coach who knew more than I did!

2. Focusing on one thing– and doing it really well.
This applies not only to the product offer– but also in terms of where to find customers. When I first started out– I tried to be everywhere all at once– youtube, blog, instagram, tik tok, facebook, linkedin– etc. That was a QUICK way for me to burn out and essentially half-assing it across multiple platforms. To this day— we not only really focus on Instagram, Tik Tok, and our email list. Eventually I’d love to get back into Youtube but for now– until I have more space and time in the business, I’ll be focusing on these outlets.

3. Be data driven.
It’s so easy to get overwhelmed by the moving parts that go into running a business– the best way to remain focused on what you need to do next is to focus on the data. We have to focus on what the data is telling us because if we have the right data– it can tell us EXACTLY where the problem is and it helps take emotions out of the equation.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
1. Hotel Del! I absolutely LOVE Hotel Del Coronado. The old victorian building, the restaurants, the view, and the ghost stories– it’s amazing.

2. Sunset cliffs– great place for a walk– absolutely stunning views and easy parking.

3. Quixote– best meal I’ve had in San Diego!

4. Jiu Jitsu! Most people don’t know that San Diego is a HUGE hub for Jiu Jitsu– so if someone were feeling adventurous, I’d tell them to try a class! I recommend 10th Planet South Bay or 10th Planet San Diego 🙂

5. SoFar Concert– I love the vibes of SoFar secret concerts because they’re low-key and all over the city. It’s a fun way to hear live music and explore the city.

6. Surfing a Tourmaline– try a surfing lesson! Tourmaline is amazing, but you can also hire a surfing coach easily online!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Saya Hillman! She’s the founder of Mac & Cheese Productions and she gave me my first paid gig. She had me host a workshop on budgeting for her company, and from there people wanted to work with me 1:1 — so I dove right in! Her believing in me before I believed in myself was a huge motivator to just get started, and figure it out as I went.
