We had the good fortune of connecting with Carrie Marill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an art school nerd, I LOVED being in school for Art – it took me ten years to finish but I would not have done it any other way. I tried many majors, schools and jobs. All those bumps shaped me into the path I’m on now. I make fine art, jewelry & clothing. All of my work comes from something in my life that I’m interested in at the moment. For example I’m in love with surfing and skateboarding. The clothes I make reflect my visual language of pattern & color AND you can skate in them! Currently my paintings nod to the environment I’m surfing in each morning. My life and work are completely interwoven.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This summer we made a goal to visit new beaches – it’s easy to stick with a favorite but I wanted variety! Of the new ones, Wind & Sea is our boys new favorite – they love getting slammed by the beach break and I like watching the short board action – plus it’s beautiful at sunset. I would definitely shop for essential wardrobe pieces at threadspun in Leucadia! 🙂
I would eat the bbq chicken pizza at Nectarine Grove and a cocktail at Herb n Sea!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Husband deserves the biggest shout out in my book! Matthew Moore (fellow artist & business owner of Mateo Goods). We both graduated from art school together and forged our own unique paths into businesses that reflect ourselves. I implicitly trust his feedback and he gets the roller coaster life of a artist and small business owner. Plus he still makes me laughs 🙂
