Meet Carli Castro | Photographic Storyteller

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carli Castro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carli, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
Traveling is the ultimate goal-whether that’s as a personal photographer; capturing the culture of wherever I’m exploring; or, editorial art. Professionally, it’s vital to me to have a reputation that consistently reflects my view of art through the lens. Artistically, I believe there’s also an opportunity to Influence others in their own photography, which will ultimately impact the platform of photographic artistry.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being homeschooled gave me the opportunities of learning real lifestyles and truly understanding how the real world works. The flexibility definitely allows me the time to sharpen my skills in photography, Given that a good portion of our days were spent outside in nature or field trippin’ obviously lent to a more creative slant and replaced monotonous homework. Since I was 9, I have loved the way of photography. Although still a Junior in High School, some may say I’m far from a professional career in photography, I say I’m on my way and will continually strive for that passion.
Photography today is one of the most competitive platforms, especially on social media. Im fully aware it may not be easy, but nothing worth having usually is. And what seems impossible to some, I trust is possible with hard work & dedication. I continue to believe that photography is art. And, art can’t fail. Confidence in your work is the motivation to press forward.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite Socal spot will always be where the sand meets the sea. Laguna beaches are the place to be for people who are interested in capturing moments with me. The beach makes me feel most at peace, and brings life to my soul. Inspiration comes from many things, but ultimately it’s the beach. My summer itinerary includes staying in little villas on the coast, building bonfires, swimming for hours, and thrift shopping in quaint beach cities. Every summer, my best friend and I enjoy street tacos, while tanning in the summer air. Summer love, forever!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My SHOUTOUT is one of the most important parts of my story! Opportunities to practice my art have come from serving at my Church! My Pastors, Ray & Beth Wilson, saw a gift in me and breathed life into it! They not only sowed financially into my dream camera…they put me around people that were more skilled than I. They taught me that to increase, I had to humbly allow myself to stay teachable. They wisely put my skills to work under our Creative Director, Taylor Briggs. Thankfully, she has gone above and beyond the church walls to help me see further. She helped me to learn business ethics, the potential in media, and also became my biggest supporter!
Then there’s my awesome family…they have always encouraged me to pursue God’s best! My dad has one of the most steadfast work ethics, and it reminds me that lazy isn’t an option for success!
I’m also super thankful for my friends, who helped build my portfolio…laugh with me, dream with me, and continually cheer me on!
