We had the good fortune of connecting with Bri Schillings and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bri, why did you pursue a creative career?

I would say that it was the creative career that chose me.

I am honored and devoted for a lifetime. It connected me to myself, the love of my life and has brought me more joy than I could have ever imagined. It has also brought me the greatest challenges but I am a sucker for a good challenge and with the best partner by my side, anything is possible.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

100% of my professional time is totally devoted to my true heART… creating, recording and playing our sound babies.

I am learning that music is a process. We started out not knowing anything about the music industry but we just started trying. In the beginning, we were doing all the jobs, while working to maintain the space to drop into that creative flow. I am finding the key is shaping the art of music with the business of music, without compromising honest creativity and authenticity with the demand for commerce.

We have been working hard to grow our music and it’s not easy, many times we might strike out but we have kept trying and it’s slowly working. It’s not easy to walk away from another professional career and totally devote your self to your dreams. To quote the lyrics out of one of our upcoming releases:

“I want you to know that you belong, though social norms can make you feel so wrong. Let go of your guilt and shame, this is your life time to reclaim!”

Every living thing has a voice, something to say. I hope these little sound babies hold you, give you the courage to be brave, take flight and connect to this incredible earthling experience as we move through this life. BE BRAVE!
I love that our ART speaks for itself. It connects to the causes close to our heART, a voice for the voiceless, it’s what happens below the surface, where the head and the heart meet. Our songs come from our adventures living through nature and connecting to the earth. Backpacking, Rock climbing, Paddle-boarding, Scuba Diving, & Fishing.

Sweet Imperfections is an eviromentally Conscious , Soft Pop band with a Sensual-Soul flare  grounded in folk roots. Organic, Empowering, Uplifting, and Honest.

I believe that when you love making music, you just live in that world and there is no divide between music and the soul. I feel the same way about nature and I try to incorporate that connectivity between the earth and our soul into my Music.

Songwriting has always been easy, melodies just flow through me, since the moment I touched an instrument. Lyrics would come after or while I was emoting through the feeling of the melody but I would often struggle with finishing a song. I feel my way though a moment that arrives and when that moment passes, if I have not grasped the story that is wanting to be told, I lose interest and move onto something new.

When I met my partner, Brandon, in 2019, he brought a new energy and perspective to writing lyrics and the ability to follow-through that I had been lacking & craving. We make a powerful team and I am having a blast while stepping into the best version of myself personally and as a songwriter.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

We are so lucky to live in such a rad place for adventure!
Ocean beach & the Sunset Cliffs
Morning paddle board sessions exploring the kelp beds and catching waves.
Two of my favorite eateries in Ocean Beach, Little lion, a boutique eatery on sunset cliffs rd. and La Dona, a Mexican restaurant with a twist.

Stop by The OB Template- a Creative cafe that cultivates community & events.

Blacks beach- clothing optional and one of the most beautiful beaches. A scenic hike, often, dolphins can be observed.

Defy gravity and go climbing at Mesa Rim, one of the best indoor climbing gyms.

Balboa Park-Where culture, science and nature collide, with more than 16 museums, multiple performing arts venues, explore gardens and grabbing some eats and drinks at Panama 66 is a staple.
I could spend a whole day here and come back the next day. It is one of my favorite spaces in San Diego.
Visit the Mingei International Museum, exhibits of folk art, craft and designs from cultures all around the world. I am looking forward to performing at the Mingei museum come spring.

University Heights, hillcrest, northpark, these are a must if you are looking for eateries. Where do I start?
Grab a Bird scooter and go for a ride along the strip until one of these restaurants call out to you– Madison, Kiroa, The red door, inside out… so many options, you won’t be disappointed.

Catch a theatrical performance at Diversionary Theater in University heights. They never cease to amaze me with their eclectic array of shows.

On that note, enjoy a concert at the North park observatory, the casbah or the belly up for some of the best venues for an up close and personal performance with your favorite artists.

Lastly, hang at our house in university heights, an old historic “Tutor home” built in the 1920’s, redwood & brick, you can taste the history. Sit back and let my Partner, Brandon make you a cocktail of choice while I serenade you with a plethora of instruments and invite you to play along for a song or two. If you stick around for dinner, we sure hope you do, Brandon will serve you the best grilled salmon and heart of roman you ever knew.

If the evenings bring a craving for dancing. Vin de Syrah is a must! An underground, speakeasy, Alice in wonderland themed, live music on Thursdays, great Dj’s and burlesque shows every friday.

Spice it up with Cafe Sevilla… live, latin, flamenco, gypsy king style music every night with flamenco shows every Saturday. I love that this bar has been supporting live music for 30 years and offers dance classes. Disfrúta la!

Wind down after an eventful week with a walk along the SD harbor, visit the star of India, and marvel at one of the finest cites. We live in a beautiful world!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

Big shout out to this powerful eARTh, giving us the ability to live, breath, and harmonize with sound vibrations, instruments and energy made from its fertile soils. This place is magic and it is a gift to be alive here, in a symbiotic creative exchange.

Brandon Sudweeks- The backbone of Sweet Imperfections and all around salt of the earth Human. This visionary and brilliant business mind, has turned our creative vision into reality. I am grateful to be co-creating with such an open heart and mind, eager to learn and grow. A blooming lyricist, the love of my life and
best adventure partner of all time! ME is better with WE.

Chad Shlosser and Micheal Johnson- Engineers/Producers- I have yet to work with such genuinely, creative and savvy musicians in the industry. Humble and true to their love for the craft, they care for these little sound babies like they are their own. They love what they do and we can feel it through their work. I am beyond grateful to be working with this amazing due and look forward to more musical adventures for years to come. Side note: I’m obsessed with Chads dog Murph, who is the identical living version of the “Sir Didymus” muppet from Jim Hensons, the Labyrinth (see photo)

Jamie Shadowlight- Musical muse and the core of it all. She fluttered into our life, September 2020, answering a post for a violinist …it was harmony from the first note. She has been the superconductor that led us to working with Chad and the growth of this incredible project. We love you Jamie-Butterfly
