Meet Bret Whitman | Spearfishing Mentor & Podcast Host

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bret Whitman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bret, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The goal behind Spearfactor is to fill a void within the Spearfishing industry that I believe to exist. I thought there was a significant lacking of positive influencers that truly wanted to help newcomers get introduced and grow within the sport.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The number one thing that is a component for a true success is to stay focused on your original purpose and mission statement for your brand. Success does not come overnight so you have to be willing to stay consistent and keeping your head down and also keeping your eyes up open to any ideas at my present themselves along the way. I think that if your goal is clearly defined that your direction for your business Will organically be created. There have been a few challenges along the way and all those challenges were overcome with a little bit of creativity and hard work.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Start with I would show them the pacific ocean coast from Torrey Pines down to imperial Beach and everything in between. Then I would make sure that they got to experience real Mexican food. I think San Diego has some of the best authentic Mexican food available anywhere in the country. I would make sure within the week that we went to sea world and the zoo and also experience some of the smaller beach towns within the San Diego County area.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To be honest, there are so many people that influence me along the way in my life. I feel that as I went I took a little bit from everyone that I respected and encountered. From coaches to service members, they all had an impact on the way I view things and handle adversity. Personally I’ve always looked up to people that were a few years older than me and saw where they were in their lives and how they were living it and made that a personal goal of mine. Basically looking at other successful people to answer the question where do you want to be in five or ten years from now.. To clarify my definition of success it’s not limited to a monetary value. Having a true purpose and fulfillment define success to me.
