We had the good fortune of connecting with Brad DuFour and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brad, why did you pursue a creative career?
We are an original rock-&-roll band called Brothers Of The Oven from Red Bluff, California. We’re made up of four members; Brad DuFour (Vocals, Guitar), Greg DuFour (Drums), Seth Burns (Bass), featuring rapper/lyricist, RayDar on a selection of songs. As brothers, Brad and Greg grew up playing music together along with Seth Burns within differnet groups, finally resulting in the formation of Brothers Of The Oven, “BOTO” in 2017 in Chico, Ca. Although we all have full-time day jobs, our passion for playing music together is in our childhood roots and has only kept us pursuing our art till this day.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When it comes to our music, we identify as a rock & roll band of brothers whose sound blends early garage blues-rock to modern indie beach-rock. From smooth melodies and silky vocals, to upbeat heavy-driving rhythms, we bring new perspective and old nostalgia in our music to audiences of all ages. When it comes to our art, this music we make is for ourselves first, letting our souls speak through our instruments, liberating ourselves through music. Gaining the opportunities to perform live and bring all types of people together through our music has gratefully inspired us to continue to pursue what we love doing. With any success we’ve had, we’ve overcome many challenges and failures in order to get where are now, including band-van breakdowns, van break-ins, band breakups, stolen gear and band-fund savings, bar fights, member separations and location changes, and losing money to get to the show and back. Overall, every failure is worth these experiences along with the exposure our music may achieve, and continues to take us to bigger events, venues, and meet fantastic groups of people and musicians along the way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since 2021 our band has become 1/3 based in San Diego, with Greg DuFour (Drums/Producer) located in Pacific Beach. If Greg were to take you on one of his regular scenic crawls for food/drink/live music, places in PB like The Sandbox Pizza, Tavern at the Beach, and Waterbar for food and drinks. Moonshine Beach for live music, and The Holding Company in Ocean Beach for all the above. Places to get out and enjoy the weather and explore the beautiful landscape would include Balboa park with the San Diego Museum of Art, scenic views at La Jolla Natural Park, skating at Robb Field park, and of course surfing and hanging out at Pacific and Ocean beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As musicians, it takes a lot of support and dedication to do what you love. For us, we were fortunate to have that support first through our parents who gave us the space to practice and make noise together growing up. Without their devoted support over the years, we wouldn’t be the band we are today. Our self-titled album “B.O.T.O.” was dedicated to our late father, Earl “Earl-Jam” DuFour, who remains to influence and inspire us to keep doing what we’re doing. If anyone deserves a shoutout other than each of our moms, it’s Earl-Jam.
