We had the good fortune of connecting with Bob Hudson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bob, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have enjoyed taking photos since getting my first camera while in grade school. My love for photography took a leap forward with my first SLR camera and the love of travel. Now, I continue to master my skills at iPhone photography and photo editing. My business allows me to organize my favourite photos while offering them for sale to anyone interested in purchasing photo products.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Professionally, I have had a long career in Information Technology. This has been primarily ‘left brain’ work. However, my ‘right brain’ also wants some attention. That’s where my creative and artistic side comes in. So left brain pays the bills and right brain has the fun! I dabbled in children’s book writing and have four books on Amazon.
More recently, I have decided to turn my love of photography and travel into a photo products business. Having retired from the IT world, I now have more time to spend building my brand and getting my photo gallery seen.
The tools are simple to use for setting up a gallery and loading photos. The harder part is driving traffic to your gallery site. For the past few months, I have posted one photo daily on Instagram and provided more information on that photo in my blog. I also post photos on Facebook. More subtle marketing includes making sure that my gallery URL is watermarked on every photo and also in my Instagram handle.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living half way between Toronto and Niagara Falls offers plenty of venues to take visitors. Those who like the big city atmosphere, professional sports, world class museums, etc can spend the entire week just exploring Toronto. Those interested in natural wonders will make Niagara Falls a must see stop. But in between those two are also many wonderful sights and experiences, such as Niagara Region winery tours, hiking along the Bruce Trail and to many nearby waterfalls, buying fudge and souvenirs from little shops in quaint Niagara-on-the-Lake. There really is something for every visitor!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are a couple of very important organizations that I would like to recognize. The first is the iPhone Photography School whose course materials on photography and photo editing are amazing. The second is the Grimsby Photo Group in Grimsby Ontario Canada as they continue to push me to improve my skills – in part through my leadership in their iPhone Special Interest Group.
