We had the good fortune of connecting with Bill Brennan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bill, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I have always tried to focus on these three habits in my career: -Put others interest first (Respect, Empathy, Kindness) -Execute on promised task/deliverables -Honest / Transparent communication I try to work under these habits daily.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have been in the commercial insurance brokerage business for almost 25 years as a sales person, team leader, and owner. It is an extremely competitive and technical business, but offers so much opportunity for growth and relationships that I think are not common in most industries. As noted earlier, I have always tried to work hard to put my clients & colleague’s first and execute on our deliverables. I would argue our product and service is among the best in the business based on the fact we are deeply entrenched in our clients businesses and have the knowledge and resources to offer the best solutions. We are privately owned and have the ability to make quick decisions, develop deep relationships, and create an amazing company culture. All of this results in top notch service and product delivery.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We live in one of the best cities in the country in my opinion – San Diego. In terms of outdoor activities, I would take our guest to Dog Beach in Ocean Beach for a great flavor of our beach community, a hike at Torrey Pines National Park, and Padres Game at Petco Park. I would also take them to the Casbah and Belly-up for some good music and fun. There are so many good spots to eat and have fun, but I would focus on Little Italy Down Town, North Park (Great Alternative Scene), and Ocean Beach (Best hippy beach vibe in town). Of course, I would make sure we hit the top three local taco shops. We are a very active community, so of course we would hit up various yoga classes (Corepower), fitness (Action Jackson Fitness), and tons of beach time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I was very fortunate to start with a great Company (Barney & Barney) directly out of college and enjoy a 24 year career. I had two very strong mentors (Paul Hering & Jack Galloway) who helped me build my carreer and teach me many leadership skills. Lastly, my Wife of 20 plus years has been the most important and impactful people in my life and I certainly would not be I where I am today without her.
