Meet Bianca Cruz | Director, Cinematographer, & Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bianca Cruz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bianca, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Taking a leap of faith in 2022, I embraced my creativity by developing my company through photography, videography, and directing. By starting a freelance media business, I was able to break free from being limited to a single art form. I’ve always been passionate about media production and storytelling, so by going freelance, I’ve been able to combine my interests and career path without limiting myself to one specific art form.
Running my own business has given me the flexibility to pursue a variety of projects, whether they be commercials, music videos, portrait photography, narrative storytelling, or filming behind-the-scenes content for social media. The freedom to explore different creative avenues has been incredibly fulfilling, as each job allowed me to learn and grow as an artist. Beyond the creative side, owning my own business has also allowed me to meet new people, collaborate with talented professionals, and expand my network in ways I wouldn’t have been able to in a more structured environment. The ability to shape my journey while constantly learning and growing has been one of the most rewarding aspects of starting my own business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Getting to where I am today has not been easy. It has taken a lot of ‘no’s to get to a ‘yes.’ When I first started my business, I faced rejection and uncertainty, but each setback taught me something valuable. I had to learn how to fail faster so I could get back up, adjust, and start again. Every ‘no’ became a lesson on how to improve, how to approach things differently, and how to trust my instincts. Over time, I learned to embrace failure as part of the process rather than something to fear.
What sets me apart is my willingness to evolve and adapt. I’ve never been afraid to experiment, to try something new, or to pivot when something isn’t working. My ability to work across different creative mediums has helped me remain flexible and open to new opportunities. I’m most proud of how much I’ve grown through those challenges and how it has shaped my confidence and vision.
My work is driven by a deep passion for creative expression and a desire to bring people’s stories to life through visual media. My brand is built on authenticity, flexibility, and collaboration. I’m constantly evolving, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me as I continue to push my boundaries and work with others who share that same energy and vision.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Los Angeles, I’d definitely want to kick off the trip with breakfast at Beachwood Cafe, Urth Cafe, or Cafe Los Feliz. Each of these places offers a vast selection of food and drinks to start off the morning. For a fun activity, I’d suggest heading to Color Me Mine, where you can paint ceramic crafts as a keepsake from the trip. As for other activities, there’s so much to explore, including the San Fernando Outdoor Market for local goods or the Grand Central Market which has a variety of food vendors and shops. For film lovers, the Museum of Motion Pictures is a must-see, along with a movie at the Rooftop Cinema Club or a 70mm film screening at the Egyptian Theater. You can also catch a live show at The Fonda, or explore The Last Bookstore for magazines, novels, and art installations. For dinner, I’d recommend A la Diabla Sushi for seafood with a Hispanic twist or De La Nonna for handmade pizza. If you’re in the mood for something lively, Kalaveras is another great option with amazing Mexican food and cocktails in an upbeat atmosphere. These are a few of my go-to spots that I’m sure many others would enjoy as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to dedicate this shoutout to Devon Thompson, who has played a huge part in my journey as she trusted me with directing over five music videos and counting for her. Through those collaborations, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with other talented artists who have reached out for future projects. Devon’s belief in my vision and her support has been a large contributor to my growth as an artist. I also want to thank EVS Rentals for their consistent support along the way. Their help has made a significant difference in enabling me to bring my creative ideas to life, and I’m incredibly grateful for their partnership. It’s these connections and collaborations that have helped me grow both as a creator and a business owner.
