We had the good fortune of connecting with Beige Radio and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Beige, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Because if I don’t I’ll explode. Hahahaha

Really though, that is a decent chunk of it. I’ve found that when I go for periods of time without creating my mental health deteriorates significantly. I think it’s how I keep things fresh…how I self-reflect, interpret the world, process things and feelings. It’s kind of my version of prioritizing how “variety is the spice of life.” Doing artistic and creative things takes me out of what I often find to be the drudgery of everyday life. I want to create and get lost in worlds and build community with friends. I think there’s real value in that and to hit on a very often over-used, but important theme of our time – I think that community aspect is becoming increasingly valuable as we get further and further apart in our digital lives. In my experience, creating community in our creative spaces both online and, even more so, in person is something that I see people craving more and more, especially since the beginning of the pandemic.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
This is going to sound very vague and broad, but I’m just really excited at the opportunity to keep growing my community, my fan base, and to plan more tours and get even more enmeshed in the art community this year.

On top of the shows I play under my “Beige Radio” stage name, I produce concerts. I was planning on doing some of that this year, but it’s really taken off. I guess I just saw some show opportunities that I didn’t want to pass up on and in the process it’s really become a year of booking/producing so far. It’s working out well because I am playing out a little less locally this year, as I want to focus on fewer, more curated shows with bigger turnouts, and venturing out into new communities/regions.

So I’d say, I’m most excited to keep expanding my community-focused, events, finishing my album, and booking a tour or two later this year. Info for all of that can be found on BEIGERADIO.COM or at my Instagram – @beige_radio

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m all about events and experiences. With that said, I love stand up comedy. Even if you’re not going to catch a pre-booked show, there are a ton of incredible free open mics around the city where you can see people putting in the work and honing their craft.

American Comedy Company

Mad House Comedy

Mic Drop Comedy

La Jolla Comedy Store

Grand Comedy Club

Laugh Factory

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve given him similar shoutouts before, but I really want to dedicate my shoutout to Tate Keller who goes by @mourningmodern on Instagram. He’ll also be opening up my single release show at Mission Brewery by Petco Park on 4/26!

I met Tate at an open mic a year or so ago and after chatting a little I learned that he produced all his own music. We worked on a song of mine and the experience went so well that we decided to do my whole album together. It’s been great getting to know Tate and maybe this next thing speaks to my experiences with dysfunctional band dynamics over the years, but while it’s always nice building friendships in a creative scene, it can be even more of a pleasant surprise to work very in depth with someone and be very comfortable sharing creative input, taking criticisms, etc. It very much feels like our focus is on experimenting, not getting too attached or hung up on perfection, and serving the art. I really admire that about him and try to take the same kind of experimentation I’ve seen him put into his own recordings – as well as mine – and apply it to my writing and future recordings.
