We had the good fortune of connecting with Barry Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Barry, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I believe creating genuine relationships built upon trust is key, whether you are an entrepreneur or Fortune 500 company. When clients, customers, and employees know you care you are on your way to making a significant difference in the world as well as their lives.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When I began this journey in May 2000 it was at a time I discovered my father had terminal cancer. I experienced a myriad of emotions, but I knew it was an opportunity to honor him by helping others achieve their best health. It was also a chance to recognize my mother who had always been active when I was growing up, first as a runner and now even at 85 as an avid walker (@3 miles three to four days per week). At the start of my business I was fortunate to do a BowFlex commercial which provided some recognition; however, I was competing with big box gyms that had a lot of financial capital to support them. My advertising techniques were derived from reading Guerrilla marketing tactics in manuals I obtained from my previous corporate job. The one thing I believed in was taking the knowledge I received in corporate America and applying it daily. This is where I learned to be disciplined and persistent. Using a Franklin planner helped me stay focused and on task. As the saying goes, “No means an opportunity, it’s not the end of the world.” As an entrepreneur you must be delusionally optimistic, and you must have high confidence in yourself and your product and/or service.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I recently discovered the beauty of Joshua Tree, and plan to return in a couple months for my birthday. I would take them there. Nature. Alone in all its beauty, from the dark skies to the morning sun there is something about the simplicity of being around the soil as it’s good for the soul. My first trip was to take in the scenery of a beautiful place and this time we will hike the open spaces in the Mojave Desert.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would not be here in my 23 years as a boutique gym owner and personal trainer without my clients, current and former. They truly deserve the credit for giving me a chance to do what I love daily. Equally deserving is my family beginning with my wife Nicole, my son Alexis, and my daughter Ciara. Those 3 are the reason I persevere and continue to dream.
