We had the good fortune of connecting with Austin Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Austin, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
I knew I wanted to be an artist ever since I was 5. And once I graduated college in 2013, I left myself longing for more and I didn’t know what to do with my art. I pursued teaching jobs of different types. Summer camps, drink and paint gigs, and then eventually, I started my own art business selling my art. But by far the most important decision I made that has gotten me where I am today was making the choice to marry my wife. If I did not marry her, I would not be where I am today. I would be lost, lonely, and depressed. Marrying her not only improved my self esteem and my happiness, but it improved my work ethic towards running my business as well.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being the artist I have become today has been a rough road. I struggled with all sorts of emotions, feelings, depression, and failing where my artwork didn’t send the message I wanted it too. My art is dedicated to the idea of change, uniqueness, and spreading joy throughout the world. When I make an art piece, it sends a message or tells a story. Each piece is different and every time I think of a new piece it is usually very spontaneous. I really enjoy the process though. I think of some of the best ideas even when I am just lying in bed at night or randomly throughout the day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d say, if you really like Pho, go here. This place was introduced to me by my wife. This place is excellent:

Pho Cow Cali Express. Best Pho in San Diego if you ask me.

Can’t go wrong there.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my loving and adoring wife, Annie. Without her, I would not be where I am today. Thank you for all your love and support.
