Meet Ashley Moreau | Personal Trainer / Functional Movement Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Moreau and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Massachusetts, in a city right outside of Boston, where my family resided until I was around 5 years old. We then moved to a small, rural-feel town in New Hampshire where we stayed until I graduated High School. I went on to go to college in a south-west city of Connecticut, where I studied Sociology and Psychology. When I moved back home to New Hampshire after college, I was trying to find jobs in my field, but was struggling with the ‘entry-level’ job positions that were requiring 3-5 years experience… fast forward a couple of years and I decided to follow this feeling in my gut to move across the country to California. I have now been living in California for 5 years! These last 5 years have been nothing short of a journey that I could not have even prepared for if I tried. My courage to take a risk to up and move from everything I have ever known has been one of the greatest decisions of my life thus far. I have been able to overcome fears, doubts, and what many deemed ‘not likely’ by continuing to work on myself and go after what I said I wanted.
I do think being from such a small town and being super family-oriented, instilled great habits and skills within myself that I am thankful for today. My work-ethic, my drive, my resilience, was brewed in my childhood and continually worked on throughout my life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Self-Employed Personal Trainer / Functional Movement Specialist. It was a blessing in disguise when the pandemic hit and all corporations closed. I believe physical fitness and moving your body is important, so I started training my clients virtually. We eventually took our training sessions outdoors and when the timing was right, I built a gym in my garage of which I started training clients out of.
A former co-worker saw a similar opportunity to grow his own business and started looking for commercial space to rent and build a private training facility out of. There were four of us at the time that helped reconstruct a garage, storage-type unit into a beautiful, luxury, private training facility. I am currently training my own clientele out of my co-worker Chris’s space.
I provide One-on-One, customized Functional Training, Habit Coaching, and Healthy Active Lifestyle Implementation for highly committed individuals. I specialize in optimal body function and alignment and I believe your body is designed to feel good. I thrive on helping the client understand their individual lifestyle and how to set up their own fitness journey based off of their goals, daily lifestyle, and passions. I am passionate about helping others grow into the strongest, healthiest versions of themselves, both physically and mentally, in and out of the gym…because how you do one thing, is how you do everything.
My clientele will be the first to tell you that I will push you out of your comfort zone and hype you up along the way while singing and dancing. But they will also share that I give you the knowledge and understanding of how to listen to your body to know when to push it and when to give yourself rest, as both are vital for health and growth.
It has definitely been a roller coaster getting from where I was five years ago at the start of my corporate career, to now successfully working for myself, and I am just getting started. When challenges arose, I had to work on asking for help, I had to remind myself of the growth I had made and continue to be resilient and push through.
I recently have a better understanding of relishing in the current blessing I am in now, rather than continually jumping from one goal to the next, with little to no time appreciating the accomplishment. I think we live in such a fast-paced society that we sometimes forget we are currently living in the middle of something we longed for. Goals are great and we get to continue to strive to be 1% better everyday, but having a baseline of gratitude for all you have in your life currently is a game changer.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a fun one because it is such a reality for me seeing as my entire family and close friends still reside on the East Coast! The first stop upon landing in California is usually at the infamous in-n-out! We then take the scenic route down PCH from either LAX or Long-Beach airport to Huntington Beach! I love taking my home-town peeps to the Tuesday Night Street Fair on Main St in HB, going on hikes in Laguna Beach, and perhaps caching a game at HQ Gastropub on PCH. Watching the sunset fade onto the horizon is also a out of state favorite that they’re not used to!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In regards to my career, I owe a huge thank you to the teachings provided by and trainers associated with my Former Employer, Equinox. When I first started my Corporate Personal Training Career back in October of 2017, I was shy, timid, and scared. Through my perseverance, the teaching courses, and a handful of my fellow associates, I was able to grow my knowledge and sharpen my craft. I am so appreciative of the ones before me who found success and then turned around and helped others find theirs.
In regards to my character, I pride myself on my spirituality. I enjoy reading personal development books and listening to podcasts from other entrepreneurs and individuals who inspire me. Some of my most enjoyed books are Think Like A Monk by Jay Shetty, The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, and You Owe You by Eric Thomas (which I am halfway through right now)! As far as podcasts are concerned, I have recently taken a huge liking to Ed Mylett. One of his latest Episodes with Eric Thomas, titled Start Living Life On Your Own Terms, is a 10/10 recommendation for every one!
