Meet Ariella Tintle | Hairstylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ariella Tintle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ariella, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I grew up in San Jose california with my parents and younger sister. I have to say I grew up in a very open and close-knit family and my parents definitely set up an environment where my sister and I were allowed to create and explore who and what we wanted to be, we were always told that It didn’t matter what we wanted to do as long as we were willing to work hard for it.
Growing up my dad was a financial advisor he was constantly prepping me with budget plans and encouraging me to save and invest my birthday card money. It took me a few years to catch on to the importance of what he was saying, but I owe a lot of my success and my ability to move away from home at 19 to all those money management talks that we had together over Cheerios.
My mother was always a creative. She designed and crafted her own jewelry line while I was growing up. As a hairstylist I always have felt like an artist in my own way and I got all of my creative flare and love for fashion and hair from my mom.
Both my parents set such a good foundation for me as an independent business person.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Hair is my canvas! Every head of hair is different and I get to put my own touch on to someone’s heads every time I cut or color.
Personally what I love to create something that is focused around what is already natural for the client. I like to work with a clients natural color or texture rather than against it. For me hair and make up has always been such a powerful way to express yourself. Whether it is your day to day mood or something deeper from with in, the greatest gift that this industry has given me is being able to help my clients find that perfect way to expresses themselves and feel amazing with their hair!
My success ultimately came from putting in a lot of hours of work early on. I said yes a lot, I chose to learn and be well rounded in what I could do rather then specializing right from the beginning.
What I think has been the most challenging (and something I’m only now in the last 2 years exploring) is the actual business part that goes on away from the chair. With in The beauty industry the business end of it gets over looked a lot.
We not taught how to run a successful business in beauty school, and majority of us go on to being independent contractors leaving us to think working more hours is the only way to make more money.
I’ve started participating in a marketing group that caters to hairstylist specifically and that has totally changed how I view and work in my business. I have to remember to treat my job like a successful business and less like a hobby I get paid for. Once I realized that it really helped push me to the next level.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Laguna beach is such a magical place already. I love taking people to Crystal Cove, it’s such a beautiful area and I love the charming cottages that line the sand.
The list of restaurants goes on and on.
Oak restaurant is a staple for dinner and drinks, Abha is a casual boho dining experience with excellent food, and seahorse is probably my favorite gem in Laguna. I’m obsessed with their funky decor and it’s has a cool history of being one of laguna’s old speakeasies.
During the summer I always take people to concerts In the park on Sundays, Laguna always has amazing live music and of course the sawdust festival is a must when it’s running!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to credit the women of the very first salon I worked at, Salon HQ in Huntington Beach. I had high hopes for myself as a stylist but didn’t have anyone close to me in my life to imitate in the industry. Suddenly I was surround by 16 different women, all in different stages of their lives and careers. And I got to see that the success was possible. I learned from each and everyone of those women, not only making me a better stylist and business women but also they helped me find a stronger sense of self in a new town at the beginning of my career. I owe a lot of my confidence and success to all the women at that salon.
