We had the good fortune of connecting with Anusha Masbooque and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anusha, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
There are 2 main decisions that I had to make:

1- I had to change my career while I was doing A levels from medical switching to Computer Science, further, i specialized in User Experience Research and found how these two different fields can merge and create magic!

2-After, completing my Bachelor’s from Middlesex University Dubai, I came to the USA to pursue my masters in IT from 2023-2025 so I’m still in the process. At first, I doubted my self-worth and wanted to give up. But, as time passed I grew into a much more confident person, solving issues by handling them well instead of panicking or overthinking about it.
Also, I find how a network of colleagues/friends could help in these areas only if you are making efforts to talk and mingle with a great conversation rather than just being fully introverted!

I do run a small business of online bakery services but it’s in the process now, since I have moved to the USA. I will be opening up that too, soon!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a master’s student in IT moving to the USA, I faced many challenges, including cultural fit and not knowing much about the country. However, I was determined to succeed, and I made great progress in my studies and my part-time job as a graduate assistant. I also volunteered with groups to increase my network and let people know my worth in my area of expertise. I am open to learning, receiving feedback, and improving.

Here are some of the lessons I have learned along the way:

Be adaptable and open-minded. Things will be different in a new country, so it is important to be adaptable and open-minded. Be willing to learn about the new culture and adapt your own behavior accordingly.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. There are many people who are willing to help international students succeed. If you are struggling, don’t be afraid to ask for help from your professors, classmates, or other international students.
Get involved in the community. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and learn about the culture. It is also a great way to build your network and let people know your skills and abilities.

Be persistent. There will be times when you feel challenged and discouraged. However, it is important to be persistent and never give up on your dreams.

I want the world to know that I am a hard-working and dedicated student who is passionate about IT and super excited to start my career in IT in the USA, and I am confident that I can make a significant contribution to my field.

I hope my story can inspire other international students who are considering moving to the USA. It is not always easy, but it is definitely possible to succeed. Just be adaptable, open-minded, persistent, and willing to learn.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The list of itineraries for my best friend/beloved visiting Boston:

Food:

Neptune Oyster: One of the most iconic seafood restaurants in Boston, known for its fresh oysters and lively atmosphere.
Mike’s Pastry: A must-visit for any cannoli lover! Mike’s Pastry has been serving up fresh and delicious cannoli.
Sportello: A popular Italian restaurant in the South End, known for its house-made pasta and wood-fired pizzas.
Dumpling Cafe: A casual restaurant in Chinatown serving up delicious dumplings and other Chinese dishes.
Alden & Harlow: A modern American restaurant in Harvard Square with a focus on seasonal ingredients and creative dishes.

And for sight-seeing probably:

Freedom Trail walk, Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Common, Public Garden
Fenway Park tour (if the Red Sox are in town, catch a game!), Harvard Square, MIT campus
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, North End (for some of the best Italian food in Boston!), Charles River Esplanade

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family is the biggest support system to make me realize my self-worth because when I wanted to give up or doubted myself, they always uplifted me emotionally and financially even though we did have some breakpoints!

They allowed me to express my fears and talk aloud relative to my negative thinking and how these can turn into positive actions. I used to think about my fear, do’s, and don’ts.

But once you set your mind to take small steps at times you see the worth and small success which boosts confidence and trust in yourself even more. Some days would be a 0-5 progress, other days would be a 10/10.
